DEPECHE MODE, who pioneered its unique style of industrial synth-pop in the early '80s, treats fans to a devilish mix of club-pounding tunes, on its highly anticipated new album,
Playing The Angel.
The new album opens with the pulsing fervor of "A Pain That I'm Used To." Up next is "John The Revelator," a grimy song peppered with erratic siren wails and soulful vocal howls.
The first single "Precious" is a rather tender tune, with ghostly vocal melodies floating over roaming synth lines. "Nothing's Impossible" is a murky number that carries through your head like a distant memory.
Other interesting moments include the freaky vocal warbles on "Damaged People," the expansive feel of "Suffer Well," and the dark mood of "The Sinner In Me."
Catch the band on their North American tour, which kicks off November 2 in Florida and criss-crosses the country, before finishing off December 9 in Washington D.C. The band's supporting acts will rotate between
THE BRAVERY and
THE RAVONETTES.
