Top 10 Shred Albums Of All Time

Guitar One magazine has published a list of the "Top 10 Shred Albums of All Time" in its February 2005 issue. According to the magazine's editors, "arpeggio for arpeggio, these 10 albums strike the finest balance between tasteful melody (ahem) and 'no way did he just play that!'"

Guitar One's "Top 10 Shred Albums of All Time":

01. YNGWIE MALMSTEEN – "Rising Force" (Polydor, 1985)
02. RACER X – "Live: Extreme Volume" (Shrapnel, 1988)
03. VINNIE MOORE – "Mind's Eye" (Shrapnel, 1986)
04. TONY MACALPINE – "Edge of Insanity" (Shrapnel, 1986)
05. STEVE VAI – "Passion and Warfare" (Relativity, 1990)
06. JOE SATRIANI – "Surfing With the Alien" (Relativity, 1987)
07. SHAWN LANE – "Powers of Ten" (Warner Bros., 1992)
08. MICHAEL LEE FIRKINS – "Michael Lee Firkins" (Shrapnel, 1990)
09. CACOPHONY – "Speed Metal Symphony" (Shrapnel, 1987)
10. GREG HOWE – "Greg Howe" (Shrapnel, 1988)

thats pretty interesting . im undecided wether i agree with that ... but if you really sit n listen to Rising Force start to finish .. it is insane . and yet maintains musicality ... Passion and Warfare is a favourite of mine too so im glad to see it up there ... cool post man

Would seem a shame that the 'newest' album there is 14 years old...it hasn't moved on in their eyes.

Jason Becker's "Perpetual Burn" should be on that list. I don't view Steve Vai or Joe Satriani as shredders. They are 2 of my fav guitarists though.

I know what you mean Wiz but when you look at the amount of NEW shredders, you think there'd be some mention in there. Maybe it's because there's so many?

Yeah, honestly, I'd have to say that most of the really good guitar playing came from the 80's as unfortunate as it is. I haven't heard too many these days. I started playing in the early 80's and there was a whole lot of good guys back then, 'til Nirvana and Pearl Jam(Though it seems) came about. And MTV quit Head Bangers Ball. That was when guitar was a major driving force in rock music. Just my $.02...............
