Re: Van Halen to reunite with Sammy Hagar

Here's my .02 cents, not that anyone asked, but that's why I love forums:

I am a fan of Edward Van Halen's music. And I am a fan of the band Van Halen. I didn't stop loving them in '86, when I heard WCTBL for the first time, and literally switched the radio off halfway through. I didn't stop loving them when I heard a simulcast of one of the Gary shows and kept telling my bud, "Man, this is awful." And I didn't stop loving them when it appeared for awhile that Mikey was out and VH was over and gone. And now that this whole Sam scenario is looking more and more like reality as the minutes pass by, I am so glad that I have once again had my love for this band rejuvenated. I love every album they've ever done, I'm sorry for the DLR campers that absolutely hate that this is happening, but dammit, they're back, and it all comes down to one thing...that guitar. It's the reason they blew up in '78, it's the reason Sam walked away from a financially positive solo career in '85/'86, and its the reason most of us still give a shit today...that guitar. And someday soon, it appears that the strap will go across the shoulder, the red light at 5150 will go on, and that guitar will once again begin to play, and when I get to hear the results, I will be 15 again, chills and all, and I will say to myself, Eddie Van Wailin', you are the baddest man that ever picked one up.

It's been a good day, and I for one am happy. Peace all.

Re: Van Halen to reunite with Sammy Hagar

Well said.

can't say I've ever got that dispirited about the music at any time. I've always loved anything he's done. Yep, even Can't Stop Lovin' You and all of Van Halen 3. But for the same reasons as you. As long as that guy is playing his guitar, then I am happy, no matter what the song is or the singer.

But I have loved them all this time as well, and yes, this is indeed a happy time !

Re: Van Halen to reunite with Sammy Hagar

This just in from Grant over at VHND:

[ QUOTE ]
After hearing and reporting the rumour that Sammy was back in Van Halen the other day, I sent off a few emails to try to get more information from some of my old sources. One of the emails I sent was to a contact I've known for many years who is very closely linked to a member of Sammy's band. This person is about as closely linked as you can be.

I asked my contact if that band member could confirm or deny the part of the rumour that said Sammy's band had been notified that he intended to rejoin Van Halen.

Sorry to say this Sammy fans, but my contact told me that Sammy has not told any of his band members that he plans to rejoin Van Halen.

Where do we go from here? Stay tuned for the next chapter in the long-running series of As The Van Halen World Turns.

Re: Van Halen to reunite with Sammy Hagar

To tell you the truth I could care less if Dave played any Sammy era songs. If he played one it would be one to many for me. Look, I think Van Halen with whoever is singing is still one of the better rock bands out there. But no matter who you put out front, no version of VH will ever be better than the one they had with Dave. It was f-ing entertaining and they play great music! They may not have always gotten along, you might not like the way Dave talks, dresses, wears his hair, whatever...The fact is that the music was better, the live show was better, Eddie was better (anyone who thinks Eddie is better now than back when Dave was there is on crack!) They were just a fun band to see and to listen to. Then comes Sammy and it started to get boring. The first time I heard Why Can't this be Love I wanted to throw up. This was the new Van Halen??? Sure it's great for radio but what a crappy song that was. I remember seeing something on VH-1 not to long ago when Sammy first joined VH and Alex was saying that the first version of VH was just a test run. This is the real Van Halen. What a load of crap that was. Gimmie a break Al!

Taken from vhforums.com

-------------

This is exactly how I feel. Eddie was a way better player back with Dave (and song writer), no offence guys. Even my guitar teacher agree's with me. Just IMO.

Re: Van Halen to reunite with Sammy Hagar

This is what's been posted at VHforums.com....
Although there have been rumblings as of late on the potential Hagar reunion, the reality of it happening rests on the validity of the story that Irving Azoff has signed Van Halen to his management company.

Knowing that this is the only possible sign that we truly have of anything going on at this point, I decided to see where else this was reported outside of HitsDailyDouble.com and Melodicrock.

Up searching on Google (isn't technology great?) I accidently found something that i consider to be incredibly important.

Upon searching for news on the Azoff/Van Halen confirmation, I typed in "Van Halen Azoff" on google, hoping to find reunion leads. Thanks to a huge coincidence I now find it likely that Azoff had a role in leaking this info.

In the following MTV story, from way back in 1997 MTV News Story on Van Halen and Journey, etc., MTV writes about Eddie's surgery, but the article, in an incredible stroke of luck, notes that Andrew McNeice personally got inside info from Irving Azoff (in the capacity of Journey's manager) about an injury sustained to then-Journey vocalist Steve Perry.

The Azoff/McNeice connection is crucially important to what we know about a possible reunion. For those who somehow don't know, McNeice is the mastermind behind www.melodicrock.com, still the only detailed account of the supposedly impending reunion.

But IF ONE ACCEPTS that McNeice could have gotten this info straight from Azoff or someone close to him, the following conclusions, among others, are reasonable:

Since this info would have come straight from Azoff's camp, the info would be first-hand and could therefore be considered both accurate and confirmable, makingt he reunion a verifiable reality and an unofficial announcement more of a formality (at least for die-hard fans) at this point.

If Azoff's camp had a hand in this, conspiracy theorists could conclude (perhaps correctly) that the parties involved wanted fans to know that this is happening, without it getting to the mainstream media yet. Azoff/etc. would have had to leak this to McNeice knowing that it would show up on Melodicrock.

Further items from McNeice and Melodicrock should be considered correct, because if one accepts this story, it is the sign of a no-B.S., direct relationship on McNeice's part with a true inside source.

I doubt Andrew can comment on this, and frankly I hope he doesn't. I want no hand in exposing what could be a crucial leak for the VH fanbase until the reunion is officially announced.

But my point is......this article seems far more than a coincidence, and I am starting to think that McNeice's source is truly very close to Azoff and therefore right on the money.

George

It sounds like this may be shot down entirely by Sammy himself, more to follow if there is an official statement.

Re: Van Halen to reunite with Sammy Hagar

It's funny what Eddieman is saying...I am/was in a VH tribute and believe me, I 'like' both versions of VH (I don't include Gary Cherone because I thought it was a wrong pairing...Gary was great in Extreme but I didn't like him in VH-can't understand why; he's a good singer but the material didn't do it for me and 1,000's of others). However, when I've chatted to Van Heilan (the Scottish tribute) about why we only do DLR era, it's never struck me BUT of course Van Halen has never done Sammy era with DLR singing and it doesn't compute in my head! I don't particularly enjoy hearing DLR songs sung by Sammy and he's a COLOSSAL singer...I reckon it would be stranger still to hear Sammy era with Dave singing...never thought of it before! Whatever happens, I want Van Halen to be awesome and NOT some excuse for refilling the coffers in the bank after all the bad stuff thats happened with Eddie and his marriage, health etc. He is a major influence on me-hell, it was wierd finally hearing the guy TALK on a thread a while ago-and I want him to come with a BANG and not a whimper. They were the most powerful band on the planet and I want that to remain.

I must have been away for awhile now Mikey is at odds with the Bros?? If it takes Sammy to get all four of them together again, THEN lets get it down.

This thread contains information about a reliable rumor. The reason I closed yours is because it was a bogus rumor, I know it's exciting finding info but it's best to check it out first. It said right in the post that it was on melodicrock so the first thing I did was go to their site and it wasn't there. I don't mind posting some specutlation and that sort of thing but the person that you quoted was full of it.
