VH3 in relation to IT\'S ABOUT TIME
These are just MY thoughts, my opinions, so please don't take offense. When 3 came out, (without you single) I had my father sit down and listen to it, with a look of distain on my face. He kinda laughed, said Eddie changed his tone from the new dlr singles, and how it sounded like a throw back song from the 70's rock era. I agreed. And when the entire 3 album hit, of course, I bought it. (the tin set, actually) I hurriedly took it home, cranked the stereo up, stared at the ceiling and just listened."Hmmm...different approach", I thought. "Yep, those are Gary's lyrics alright." Being an avid extreme fan, I was quick to notice that some of the harmonal arrangements were very much like that of something off the 3 sides album."Wow, Mikey is way down in the mix...." I kept listening. Eddie's tone was raw. Almost that of Fair Warning, or WACF. I was diggin it.His playing had a sort of FIRE that previous VH albums lacked. Just listen to some of the VH3 Tour boots. You'll see what I mean. To go from the Balance tour to the 3 tour, it's almost another human within a human. It was just the songs, man...Fire in the Hole was as close as they got to "sounding" like "VH". As I sit here, listening to the new single OVER and OVer and OVER, I have noticed that Eddie's tone is even more DRY than that of 3. Incredible. Yet, his playing left me with a wierd taste in my mouth. The solo in particular. Mikey is back in the mix, which is a welcome change! Alex, Alex, Alex....what can I say? I miss the sound he had on FUCK. Deep, Powerful, and they almost had a tone to th em..anyone know what I'm talking about? They sounded like cannons going off right next to you. This sounds like muffled pistol shots.Sammy's vocals are dry as well...sounds like some vocals he recorded on the Marching to Mars album...heck, this song could have been ON Marching To Mars...
All in all, it's an OK song....For me, I just can't force myself to LOVE it. I LIKE it. I lOVED HUMANS BEING. I LOVED ME WISE MAGIC. I LOVED SEVENTH SEAL. I LOVED 5150. I liked Without You, I like this....I guess it's just that after so damn long, you'd expect something earth shattering. Time stopping. Oh well, maybe next album...

Re: VH3 in relation to IT\'S ABOUT TIME
For me personally I love IAT, but I can understand and repect your thoughts on it liltony. I like the heavy intro and the overall heavyness of the song. It has really got me pumped for the tour and I'm very interested as to how it is going to sound live, that and Sammy comments that they are going to dig into the back catalog as well. For those that think the song is okay but not great the local morning show DJs here in Detroit put it something like this "A band usually releases the second best single off an album first and then they release the best single second", so there is still hope for those of you that think it is ok but not great, for those of us that really like IAT if what they said is true it is just icing on the cake! Re: VH3 in relation to IT\'S ABOUT TIME
The new song is awesome, if for no other reason, than it heralds the return of the World's Greatest Rock Band, the Mighty Van Halen. What it may lack in lyrical poetry it makes up for in honesty and purity. You KNOW, if it wasn't happening, Sammy wouldn't do it. 3 was a nice little scenic drive off the highway, but we're back on the open road so get ready to shift gears!!!

Re: VH3 in relation to IT\'S ABOUT TIME
No disrespect to Aerosmith, I just find their stuff to inconsistent at times. I think we can all agree that 3 was VH's weakest, but every other cd is strong start to finish.

Re: VH3 in relation to IT\'S ABOUT TIME
I really like the new song. It's just modern, radio-length, and mainstream enough to bring passive VH fans back on board. All of us here know what VH CAN sound like, and WILL sound like on tour. But, if this were politics, I'd say this song is aiming at "moderate" voters.
But even while doing that, I feel the guys continuing to evolve their sound. Especially Ed's tone. Personally, I think it's a solid release, and it's going to kick ass live. One fan's opinion :-).

Re: VH3 in relation to IT\'S ABOUT TIME
After listening a few times, I too like IAT. I just would like the solo to be a little longer, and maybe it is on the album or what he'll play live, but in today's commercial world, I guess we won't be hearing any longer solos except live. But as long as VH is back, I'm a very happy camper!
