White Stripes

I don't know why but it seems that the rock stations in Boston have to play the F@*!en white stripes every 15 minutes....so. Two questions for ya:
1: Who are the bands that you absolutely can't stand.
2: What guitarists IYO absolutely SUCK ASS.

for me it's The white stripes, and Jack White...kill 2 birds with one stone there...

this could be a fun one.

Re: White Stripes

Id like to share an individual opinion, but mines the same as yours Im sick of the white stripes, and im sick of Jack White being proclaimed as a great guitarist when no ones gonna remember him in 10 years.

Re: White Stripes

It really pisses me off when i see Jack White outranking people like EVH and Steve Vai in lists of the greatest guitarists ever.

White Stripes. Paahhh

They are soooooo crap. They are annoying and she can't even play the drums. Jack's guitar is always out of tune and so is his singing. What on earth are people thinking even giving these a chance.

All I can say is, if they can make it, it gives us all hope.

How can reasonable people call this crap music?? To me, anything after 1992 went down hill fast when Nirvana screwed music up. These no talent, dropped D, 3 chord strumming, no solo playing, whining assed singing, frat boy rock idiots can kiss my ass!

Nickelback and Audio Slave and any band like them make me want to projectile vomit!!!

I've practiced my ass off on guitar for 16 years and I'll be damned if I ever listen to new music UNLESS its from 80's Rockers making a comeback! Thank God Real Metal is creeping back!!

I'll try my best to answer both questions. I dont listen to the radio other then sports radio, and WMMR which is a classic rock station. The bands I cant stand would be:

Jet
The White Stripes
The Vines
Nickleback (sorry, but I just can't bring myself to like them)
Flickerstick
Godsmack (The AC/DC of nu-metal)

And the worst guitarist I think is Jack White. I can't see why he gets all the accolades he does.

Re: White Stripes

K first thing first, I guess I'll ask the obligatory question "How the heck did Nirvana ruin music"??

Ok some bands I can't stand

1. Incubus (SCIENCE is perhaps one of the greatest albums of all time, but almost anything after that is sold-out crap, pity as these guys clearly had the talent)

2. Dream Theater: These guys have all the talent in the world but yet they can BARELY write a compelling song (excpet for the middle of Metropolis I which just plain f'n rules) Sorry guys, keep wishing your're Queensryche.

3. Slipknot-What the hell guys, Mr. Bungle called and they want their props back.

4. Nu Metallica-'nuff said

5. Blink 182-Dunno what it is about these guys, but whenever I hear the lead singers voice I get this involuntary reflex to wanna punch him. What the hell are these guys and their whiny college boy sound still doing around.

Well thats really the only "bands" I can think of that REALLY suck, umm its kinda hard to suck at guitar so I'll leave that to the rest of ya.

Nirvana took the art of skillful guitar playing and threw it out the window. Alot of other seattle bands thereafter followed suit. If you can play "Smoke on the Water" you can play any Nirvana song blindfolded. Thats also when true vocal talent died. For example, Ronnie James Dio can actually sing, and Kurt Cobain cannot, c'mon he just yelled out like he was really constipated.

Alice in Chains was about the only good thing to come out of the 90's. They had real talent.

Thank God crappy Grunge and alternative 90's stuff is about dead and the old school sound is returning. Its about time.

Re: White Stripes

I think that AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and STP were the best things to come out of the 90's. I still dont get why Nirvana gets all the props they do, because they weren't better then the bands I listed up top. Alice In Chains IMO is the best band in the last 15yrs. There's no other band that comes close IMO. I do agree with Incubus' Science album. That's a great one right there. Grunge really gets a bad rap, but there was some really great music that came out of there, even some with guitar solo's! It's just that those guys didn't feel the need to play 90 notes a second like the guys from the 80's, which was fine by me. They stripped everything back and took it back to when rock was raw and real. Minus Nirvana, and a few others I really liked some of the 90's bands.

Re: White Stripes

Yep, I aint gonna argue that Alice In Chains was at least 3x's better than Nirvana and I suppose if you measure the quality of music by the technicality of the instrument players, then yes, Nirvana does suck.

But I dunno, I was never much for technicality, music appeals to me at some other kind of level which really has nothing to do with any musician's level of musical prowess. All I know is that I like good music when I hear it And I know Nirvana could write damn good music in spite of their lack of virtuosity.

Actually for a case against measuring music by sheer technicality of the lead guitar, take the Foo Fighters, arguably their lead is better than Nirvana, but I dont think anyone would argue that they can write better songs without Cobain (well maybe they would, but they'd be insane).

Re: White Stripes

Ok,,,here's another one that I just thought of, and I'm probably going to take a lot of heat for this, so forgive me but,,,I JUST CAN'T FUCKING STAND INGVE MALMSTEEN. The guy certainly can play the instrument, and is lightning quick, but the second after the solo ends, I've already forgotten it. It seems to me that he just tries to jam as many notes down your ear as possible. There is a difference between tasteful shred and being just plain ridiculous. As for the Seattle sould, I'm glad to see that most of you think AIC is the best of that bunch. They really have some compelling stuff, and the unplugged really blew me away. Cantrell is very soulful IMO
