Your favorite Modes or Scales?
this topics probably happened before, but anyhow
i think i've always liked the mixolydian mode best, intermingled with a b3 at points... its got funk to it, mysterious weirdness, bluesiness and jammability.
2nd is probably the dorian mode, which actually i think i use quite a bit.. i like to throw in flat and sharp 5s when using it though.. very fun
3rd place for me would have to be the lydian mode, although i've never had a great command of it i recognize its potential as a awesome mode, what with the far out tensiony alien sound it has

1. Hirojoshi, and variations thereof. See the Jason Becker hotlicks video. He makes it look so easy.
2. Pentatonic 3-note-per-string format (with flat-5). Sounds great when played fast (See Paul Gilbert's 1st video).
In reality though, I only use major, harmonic minor, and penatonic. The rest don't apply very well to hard rock/heavy metal.

Primarily Dorian, Aeolian, and Ionian, although I occasionally use some Lydian.
FWIW, I think Dorian fits metal pretty well.....YMMV.

*revives good thread*
If I had to chose one I would say Ionian, just fits into everything I play, can be creepy, happy and sweet sounding at any given time.
