Importing MIDI\'s into FL\'s

I was attemping to create some backin tracks from some midi's i had.. But when i import the midi's into Fruity Loops (FL) i hit play but i hear NOTHING. but i can still hear sounds that i make on my own just fine. Is there a standard configuration that i need to adjust to be able to hear the midi in that app?
