24/96 or 16/44

Is 24/96 that much better than 16/44 for recording? I use a GT8 via SPDIF into my Terratec S/C (DMX6 Fire).

Is one better or is it better to record at the higher bit rate and then dither down to 16/44 for burning to CD or MP3.

Cheers,

Jim

24/96 - more headroom.

This is beaten to death at tweakheadz.com.

Goport will become famous soon enough
sting is right. you can also record at 44.1/24bit if your card allows it. this gives the benefit of saving on disk space but keeping the 24 bit resolution.

A good halfway house is 38/24. you give yourself better than cd quality but without doubling the wav size as you might using 96khz
