A few free VST plugins for you that rock!
GLACEVERB
Tubester 1
Both of these plug-ins are completely free and are excellent sounding. I just uploaded a new recording in Originals in which I used both of these during the mixing. Check 'em out and have fun. I'll post more as I see them.

Here's a list of essential sites for very good freeware plugins:
VB-Audio
Voxengo
SimulAnalog Guitar suite
mda-vst
db-audioware
Then there are the costly ones that no DAW should be without:
Amplitube
Ozone
Also, check out the goodies here and here.
Oh...and how can I forget digital fishphones! Some of the best free plugins around on that page. My favorite is endorphin!
Have fun!

I'm bumping this thread, just because there are great tools listed that everyone should have in the home recording system. I'll also second the request to sticky this post to the top of the board.
And here's another excellent list of freebies:

Forgive my ignorance, but what exactly is a plug-in and how do I use one? For example, could I download a plugin and use it to modify the songs I've recorded with my Guitar Tracks 2 or do I need something really expensive like Sonar?
Thx!

I have stickied this because it is a useful resource. I will add to it when I get time

Plugins are essentially outrageously priced software (typically in bundles of different plugins) that you apply to a recording. There is really no limitations to what a plugin can do to the sound depending on which plugin you choose.
The more popular ones such as the Waves brand blugins can cost up to $5000 for the full set but the set is every plugin you need to completely polish up, eq and master a song or track so when there's a multi million dollar record coming out of the studio becuase the plugins made it all nice and polished up sounding, it's well worth the price.
For the amature, it's not though and they're very powerful and require a really good ear to make the most of them.
Izotope makes ozone3 which is sort of an all in one budget priced mastering plugin that's VERY nice considering the price which I highly reccomend.
As far as audacity goes, I think Audacity is more for recording single tracks than big multi track sessions but it DOES support plugins.
Download this
http://audacityteam.org/vst/
And from that point, you should be able to install any VST plugins (plugins come in a few differnet formats depenidng on which software you're using to record). I use audition 2.0 which supports VST and Direct X formats and I think ProTools uses the RTAS or something like that.
some plugins can be applied in real time as you record but most are done after you record the track, you go in and edit the wave file you recorded and can preview the track with and without the plugin being applied and tweak it and hear how it affects the sound in real time.

Hmmm for my first post, here are some frees plug-ins that I think some of you will find usefull
---- http://www.modernplugins.in-tw.com/ ----
Here is the direct link to the download from the page. Or just click the Words at the top of the Website. "Download Full Installation V1.80"
---- http://antress.myweb.hinet.net/Moder...ernPlugins.rar ----
These are free plugs. Run the setup and they will install to your VST folder of course. They all start with the name "Modern". Now if you scroll down you will see the Faceplate of the LA2A. The 1176LN is in there to.
Once installed, the names of the Plugs are:
"Modern VLME" is the LA2A
"Modern VSME" is the 1176LN
Try them out and let me know if they sound similar to the UAD emulations.
Thanks
