Acoustic Guitar recording hiss problem

Im trying to record a delicate piece of Acoustic guitar , sort of gentle finger picking Mike Oldfield thing , and i cannot get rid of the hiss from the Mic . I never really hear it when doing noisey bouncy tunes , but this finer piece has exposed it . I suspected the Mic pre amp , but it was not the culprit , i then went direct into the line in , and it still produced high levels . I tried using a 58 and then a 57 , but its still there , i can rid it with a noise gate but you get i back when i start playing .Are these mics hissy by nature , or is it my sound card showing its true colours , SB AUDIGY ! . How do you think be doing this . Help appreciated

Just a thought, but are you recording in the same room as your computer? Have you tried isolating it?

What are all of your different volume/gain levels at? Have you tried mixing those up? Also, try swapping out each of your cables one by one, sometimes white noise can be a cable about to go to shit.

thanks DJ , I will check it out .although im begining to think this is probably a case of me sat in a room with a Guitar that does not project well , because it is only a cheap Acoustic after all , and im trying to get a nice leval by upping the gain , its just one of my lines of inquiry at the moment .
