Best Recording Software?

What is the best recording software for a pc and why? What are the pros and cons? I am looking into turning my PC into a home recording device...

Thanks for the wisdom in advance...

Re: Best Recording Software?

Most people use Cool Edit Pro becasue it's free.

I would guess Cakewalk, Protools or Sonor are some of the best...but they cost $$$.

Re: Best Recording Software?

There are some great products out there.....basically, just figure out what will work best for you....

Some links...

www.cakewalk.com

www.cubase.com

www.protools.com

Download some of their trial versions...then decide which one you like...there are also other products out there....but for PC...In my opinion all these three are great choices...

Re: Best Recording Software?

Cool Edit is free? Only for a few weeks. On a trial basis. I can't find any such software on Kazaa that is not the trial verision... Anyone know where I can get a version that is not only a trial?

Re: Best Recording Software?

I donut like the fact that pro tools is a proprietary design. I have used it with a digi 001. Steinberg Cubase SX and Cakewalk Sonar Producer offer rock solid stability, more features, and cost comparatively less, considering you can use it on ANY hardware. The average joe can get by with Cool Edit or Guitar Tracks Pro. If you wanted to tap into the features that the more expensive packages offer, just realize that there are many options available...Cubase, Sonar, Samplitude, etc. I suggest that any one looking to buy these items check out epinions.com and ask around recording specific boards. We're taking upwards $400 + so it's best to do a little research before plunking down the dineros.

It is not (indeed just like cubase etc..). If you got it free, then it's a pirated copy.

And I think the basic versions of cubase (cubase SE) cakewalk home studio etc will cover more than the demands of most users. The price range of these are around 100$. Coupled with a decent soundcard (100$) they make for a great basis for a home studio that surpasses the capabilities and quality of a pro studio 20 years ago. A lot cheaper then those casette portastudio's too :-). No real need to go kazaa, unless you live in somalia or Irak of course.

Goport will become famous soon enough
Cubase SX is the boss imo. Add a dash of Ozone3 and more importantly a decent Waves Ultramaximizer and you are there. Also check out some of the links on this forum for free vsts. Get some pretty cool free compressors (http://www.digitalfishphones.com/main.php) - then you are laughing

I use Cakewalk. It's easy, intuitive and after some noodling you can get a very professional final sound with it.
