Well there mndzw25,
they are both good programs.
I use cakewalk but have tried most all the other recording apps.

Steinberg has really good VST plug-ins and the recordings seem to be high quality,
but I found it to be a hard and long learning process (maybe due to my sound card)
programs react differently to different sound cards.

the cakewalk program i use is called Sonar-6 producer edition
I also use the 64 bit edition on a XP pro 64 edition windows platform
This allows for greater head room and cleaner recordings.
IMO - I find sonar to be a superior program.
I am useing a motu mkll di and the 64 bit install with CW sonar is not as user friendly as it needs to be but such is life with a 64 bit platform.
Hope this helps

I also use Cakewalk, but without midi etc. just like a glorified 4 track but with better sound quality and more tracks to play with. doesn't make recording drums any easier though.
