cheapest way to record well on my computer?

Hi, I've been recording on and off for a few years now with cool edit pro mostly. But i'm not happy with the sound i get, I was wondering if anyone has any inexspensive suggestions as to what the best way to go about getting a good tone would be. I've got a les paul studio, roland blues cube 30, a zoom 606, and a cheap radioshack (12$) microphone. The best setup I can come up with is mic'ing the amp and wearing headphones .

Thanks,
dave
