Guitars recording

Hello.
Need help here. To record guitars, I plug the equipment directly to the PC instead of mic it. But when I plug the amplifier to the pc it sounds more like a bee than a guitar. The same when I plug the pedals to the pc.
It sounds like "bzzzzzzzzzz" when I play a chord (I moderate the gain/level very carefully by the way to not "bzz", so it ain't bad pedal setup).
I thought it was normal because I don't have an ultra-supersonic computer but I've heard so many totally DIY home-recorded songs with great guitar sounding...
I've been trying to "clean" the guitar in Sound Forge but it doesn't works out like I want to... the sound still bzzzzzzzzzs. :P

So what could be the problem? The cables? I need a great soundcard or something?

Anyone?

Giulia, take a look at this ---> The Musician's Guide to Home Recording

It should help answer all your questions.

I use Kristal Audio Engine or Multitrack Studio Lite to record my guitar tracks but I always record clean. Then I process the effects later through VST effect plugins

Yeh generally you find a lot of home recordings are pre-recorded with a clean channel sound and then using VST's or Gain settings to increase the sound to a dirtier / distorted sound. You can also add chorus, reverb, tremelo etc.

Hope this helps a bit
