Importing MIDI\'s into FL\'s
I was attemping to create some backin tracks from some midi's i had.. But when i import the midi's into Fruity Loops (FL) i hit play but i hear NOTHING. but i can still hear sounds that i make on my own just fine. Is there a standard configuration that i need to adjust to be able to hear the midi in that app?
Thanks

Re: Importing MIDI\'s into FL\'s
You have to configure your soundcard....If you are using a WINDOWS operating system...this can be configured through the Control Panel "Multimedia" ICON...then choose your preferred PLAYBACK Device...EX. MIDI Mapper....
Make sure this is selected in Fruity Loops or whatever software you use....
Also....You could record MIDI to WAV File....Converting the MIDI to WAV.....I don't use Fruity Loops..so I hope this helps......To record MIDI to WAV...whatever your using to record...just open a MIDI track.....then open an Audio track.......Make sure the WINDOWS MIXER, Sound Properties is set to MIX RECORD.......SET your Audio track to record Mode....then adjust levels....then hit RECORD.......

Hi Evhmoon....maybe also if you convert midi to wav..then you can play in fruity loops.....fruity loops may not recognize a .MID file extension...could be MIDI MAPPER like you said, also.....

Re: Importing MIDI\'s into FL\'s
k. i havent had the chance the last two days to mess with this, but now i do.. I can prolly make sume kickass BT''s if i can get it all figured out ok.. But first off, thats kewl that i could prolly just change the midi to a wav.......but.there are parts of midi's that i would like to omit, like voice phrasings and stuff...... i will check out the midi out right now.. but i again, i dont have another option for midi on that.... wish me luck..

Re: Importing MIDI\'s into FL\'s
The same thing happens to me using FL
It's not a big deal to me cause I hate the sound of midi anyway. As soon as I import the midi, I load all the midi tracks with a GM soundfont and then replace the ones I don't like with better specific soundfonts (for bass, drums, keys, etc.).

I am having the same problem as evhmoon, I just started messing with the FL4 demo version. I see it playing but can't hear anything. GM soundfont? What's that? I am new to this computer studio thing or whatever it is and would like to make backing tracks.

Re: Importing MIDI\'s into FL\'s
Ok, I'll try to make this simple...
Soundfonts are nothing more than a group of samples of a real instrument packaged in one file to use with midi sequencers like Cakewalk, SynthFont, Fruity Loops, Cubase or whatever to give a more realistic sound to midi files.
Most soundfonts are for specific instruments, such as guitar, piano, drums, etc. GM soundfonts are different because they are a collection of instruments all in one soundfont. These are convienient for obvious reasons but generally, not all instruments in the file are top quality. So basically, what I do is load every track with my favorite GM(collection) soundfont, and then replace the instrument tracks that don't sound as good with more specific soundfonts....usually drums, bass and piano. Hope this helps!
