Ive Had It
Ok,,,Ive tried 5 different kind of cables, 3 different kinds of software, and 2 different sound cards and all I can get is sound from my pc speakers, but NOT ON THE RECORDING TRACK!!!! Maybe its something to do with Windows ME. (fucking thing screws me up everytime I put something new on my pc.) So I will try to upgrade to xp home and see if that does it. If not I think Ill just put all my shit back down the basement and say fuck it!!
gonna get drunk now ,,,Sorry Eric about the expletives..

Re: Ive Had It
Windows ME will do that. If your PC can handle it. Upgrade to either Windows 2000 or Windows XP Professional....Windows ME is a terrible operating system all around.......oh, i recommend wiping out ya hard drive first rather than just upgrading to XP.. better to do just a clean install

Re: Ive Had It
Could it be something as simple as your recording side muted on your ME mixer? Double check your settings before you go to far.

Re: Ive Had It
I've used ME for a long time.....it works fine. When you go into control panel you need to make sure you have the correct recording device enabled....and check the mixer.
Download Free pro tools HERE
and away you go.

Re: Ive Had It
Not to break balls (I work in IT so I am jaded) but most of the time the problem lies between the seat and the keyboard although it's way more conveinent to blame everything else.

Re: Ive Had It
Hey Mike;
I've seen some strange driver configs which lead to these types of problems. double click on the speaker on the right end of the task bar. This will open up the mixer applet. Next go to OPTIONS and drag down to PROPERTIES choose RECORDING. Make sure there is a check in the box of the input you are using. Hit OK. This opens up your input mixer. Choose the correct input.

Re: Ive Had It
Yeah, it's way drastic to get rid of Windows ME, and put Windows XP on there. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Windows ME.
My hardware HATED Windows ME, it simply HATED it. But, I put up with it because I didn't want the hassle of putting a new operating system on my computer.
However, eventually, I put Windows 2000 on there, and more recently, Windows XP. Both Operating Systems I have found are much more stable than Windows ME. I have never heard any success stories using Windows ME from anyone I know that has used it, with most people swearing by Windows 2000 improved stability.
That said, I can't guarantee that the new Operating System will solve all of your problems, but at least you can be sure that you have a more stable environment with which to start from.
I also can't stress enough to do a clean install. i.e. wipe off M.E., format your O.S. partition and then install a clean O.S. on there. Upgrading is just asking for trouble. An O.S. upgraded with Windows M.E. as the foundation ???!!!!

Urrrggghhhh, it doesn't bear thinking about !!!

Good luck dude !

He's trying to say it's usually operator error....and basically I have to agree.
I'd bet it's a software setting. If you have Cool Edit Pro hooked up.....I can go into chat and talk you through some things to try. Also there are tons of computer geeks on this board that can help you out.
If you do end up putting on XP, you can activate remote control and someone can just fix it remotely if it's a software setting.

Re: Ive Had It
Or, you could just pop RealVNC on there straight away, and get someone you trust to take a look at it. You set a password, and run the server. Then they run the client and connect to <your_i.p._address:0>. They'd get prompted for a password, which would be the one that you have set. Then they would have control of your desktop.
