MIDI recording help

First things first, I have the obvious set up.
Sonar 7
Yamaha keyboard.
M-Audio firewire 410 soundcard

Midi out of Keyboard to Midi in on Soundcard.
Midi out of Soundcard to midi in on Keyboard

My issue is NOT that I don't get the midi recorded. I do. My problem is, I can't seem to get the sound from the actual keyboard itself recorded into Sonar (I really like the keyboards own Synth and Strings settings). I don't want to use a Midi vst (like PSYN II, or other vsts) or anything, I just want to use what the sound settings from the keyboard itself.

I've found an "analogue" way of doing it, by recording they keyboard from the 1/4 inch out of the keyboard to the soundcard 1/4 inch input direct, but that obviously doesn't let me modify any midi notes after the fact (and given that I'm not a proficient piano player, I need to fix some things).

I hope I'm being as clear as I can be.

Me, I like guitar. I like loud squeals and pinch harmonics that only dogs can hear, tapping that would redefine what Fred Astaire popularized, sweeping that would make a janitor jealous, and most importantly great melodic HOOKS (like the greatest hook writers of all time Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson). Singing is not a requirement.
