mixing boards

hey ive been recording directly into my computer for a long time now. and ive been looking at getting a small but decent mixing board that doesn't dig to deep into ya pockets. but i dont know wether i sould mic my amp then into mixing board or just straight from the boxes into the mixing board. and what are some good mixing consoles out there that some of you might be using or that might be what im looking for. any advice would be very helpful

Hi,

I'm not qualified but at least this is some stuff I would think about.

Does the board have phantom power for condenser mics. I love the sound of a large diphram mic for mic'ing a cab for leads. I like the sm57 for backing guitar tone (at least in the sim world LOL)

Are the preamps in the board of good quality (low noise etc.)

I would mic my amp if I had a nice room to mic it in and if I had an amp LOL. I'm using a PODxt right now.

Carvin seems to have some good bang for the buck. Not sure of the tone of the channel strips?

Just my 2 cents.
