Need help producing this kind of reverb (sound file inside)

I tried explaining it to one of my knowledgeable friends and he suggested a phaser. I went to the guitar store today and listened to a phaser pedal and I almost vomited. That's NOT what I'm looking for.

Our equipment:
I'm using pro tools with an Mbox2 to record. We have one electric acoustic (martin), regular acoustics, electric guitars (5 or 6 very nice ones with different pickups). We also own good compressor and dynamic mics. I know his head and cab are made by Marshall. (he has been in a band for years).

Plugins I own:
D-Verb
Delay effects (inclusing moogerfrooger)
All the other standard plugins

I am not a guitar player so please excuse my ignorance. I am simply recording and doing vocals. I spent about 5 hours with him trying to get this kind of reverb in protools and couldn't do it.

This song has the guitar sound I'm looking for. Not necisarily a fan of the song, but I love that reverb/delay I'm looking for. This is a kind of reverb I heard A LOT in the 80's.

Btw-it's kinda hard to hear the reveb in there with all the layered guitars. When we listened to it on the monitors we're both like "That's it!"

He is also a big fan of The Smiths and likes that metalic sounding reverb Johnny Marr used. I have been trying to figure out what kind of equipment he used.

I'm kinda wondering if I should look at a guitar effects processor. My friend who I'm recording said he wanted a Roland GP-8 (could be wrong, going from memory) but he was never able to find one.

That tone isn't just reverb. there's also a fair amount of chorus and delay. PM me and I'll see if I can walk you through it.
