New Line 6 Tone Port
Looks like Line 6 will release a POD-type device with all the software on the PC. It might sound really good. It's been a long time since they released a new core product and this one is sure to kick ass!

Yep I saw your post after I did this one....it really belongs in both rooms. It's like a Guitar port on steriods, but if it has all the features as the POD XT, it could replace that also. I hope it's not too much...because I will want to get one and play with it before I sell it on E-bay.

I don't know, I think I'll stick with my PodXT. Looks like they just added some XLR mic inputs, but it's still USB, If they had gone firewire, it'd be more interesting to me.

It might be USB 2.0...which is faster than firewire.

Well, I plan on picking up a bass sometime and with this having guitar, vocal and bass amp models it would be the perfect all-in-one recording companion

Good point, never thought of that.

wouldnt it be possible to just upgrade the guitarport software so we had bass amp and vocal amp models?
i know they will not do that but imo is the tone port apart from the extra in and outputs exactly the same kind of gear as the guitarport
i might be wrong tho

This is what I heard but to me it doesn't make sense for it NOT be usb 2.0 since it costs the same and is backwards compatible to 1.x.

I have a feeling this product will be alot more expensive than the guitar port and POD. It looks like a very rounded product catering for guitar, bass, and vocals with alot more preamp models. Should be interesting to see what its like

Something tells me this will be in the $200-300 USD price range. No way will they market it more $$$ than their XTlive. This is really only good for someone looking for a recording interface that doesn't already have a decent one, especially with a decent preamp for a mic. Who knows, if it has USB2 and even better stuff for vocal recording than I have with my m-audio and vst plugins, then I may pick one up and ebay the firewire 410.

Not entirely true IMO. USB2.0 has a max speed of 480Mbps, in reality it is not a constant transfer rate and therefore cannot be sustained. Firewire has a constant speed of 400Mbps. Basically for sustained use the firewire is faster and and more consistent. For most apps this is not really an issue but for audio/visual I would always go for firewire.
I am also disappointed that they stuck to USB1 with the toneports, not to mention the fact that it has no 96kHz sample option (44.1 & 48KHz, 16 & 24 bit.) They seem to have cut a few corners which is a shame.

Still, if they make it affordable, it makes for a nice low-cost solution for someone getting into this stuff. Oh, and firewire is always better than usb, and for those that insist usb2 is faster, there is a new version of firewire that is over 800Mbps
