New sound system for computer

I wasnt sure where to put this. I want to get a new soundcard and speaker system for my computer, but i dont really know what to look for. I want something loud and that doesnt brokatize me too bad. This isnt mainly directed towards recording, because i know that would probably cost alot more money.

I would lean towards something by creative for a sound card...they have always been in the upper 5% of sound card manufacturers...for speakers, i would definately go with Altec Lansing...just suggestions though...

If you are not recording and you just want good sound then just get a soundblaster.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1118841165481

The audigy cards have good sound and are easy to use. If you want to go cheaper, you can also get the Value Line. I think you can get a Sounblaster Live! Value for around $30 if you go to walmart or a local computer store. pretty much if you want a consumer card Sound Blaster is the way to go.

I agree with altec Lansing for speakers. If you want it loud, then you need good powered speakers. The card won't make any difference really in loudness. Get some good altec lansing speakers with a subwoofer and you should be good to go. The Audigy card I linked to can do 5.1.....the Value! Card just does stereo. So keep that in mind if you want to do surround sound.

You can find them really cheap on ebay.

Im using a Soundblaster Live 24bit, it cost me £25, and i have to say for a budget card its pretty good, i had been using on-board sound(evil!!) up until my motherboard melted on me, then i had a prob with the on-board sound on the new motherboard, so i bought the above card.
It supports quite a few speakers (6 i think) has a brillant software package with it, which allows you to record multiple tracks (i.e. backings tracks playing on the comp, guitar playing though the line in etc), it also has a wave editor, media player, Equaliser, effects, noise gate for recording records, not to mention the huge improvement in quality to imputs like mics (So you can be heard clearly if you play Battlefield 2 ).
So if sound on a budget is needed, its a nice card, i can recommend it, im not saying more money won't get you something far better, but you could do alot worse then this.
As for speakers, i can't comment, im a headphones man

Klipsch GMX A 2.1 for speakers (approx $150). I would opt out of the SoundBlaster series and go for M-audio. Even the 5.1 Revolution is a better alternative (approx $80), unless you go for the X-fi and more costly (over $100 for the base model).

Check those reviews. These choices are top rated. If i were going to upgrade, those speakers for sure, and something M-audio.

M-Audio, Edirol, or E-MU. Pick your poison. Each brand has a bunch of products that will do you right. Currently my favorite is the E-MU 1820M.

I use the soundcard that came with the computer, nothing special.
But I just got new speakers for it. Logitech z-5500 5.1.
I'm pretty happy with the sound now. The subwoofer is a monster.
