Please,Need Advise And Opions....

Ive been trying to learn to use Cubase to record with and Wavelab to master.Well I think Im getting there but some stuff I cant figure out.Like alot of the stuff I master sounds good on the pc but if I play it in my car system I get a kinda boominess(If thats a word).I soloed through each track and I think its comeing from the guitars,I did some eq'ing that I read about through the net.I also have to keep the bass guitar kinda low or I get a boom sound also.I guess a couple of questions would be what db should the masters max at,ex:-4db,-10db ect...What levels should I set the instruments to after they are recorded,should I keep them in a -10db area or what?Any other tips would be very appreciated.

The Enter Sandman doesnt sound right,Bell Tolls sounds ok I think as such the others.I made all the backing tracks using AD Drums,Hardcore Bass,and Lounge Lizard for the Keyboards in the interlude part of I Dont Know.I did not make the backing track for Wasted Years,got it off the net and of course I did all the guitars,I know the playing may not be all that great but I have started playing again the last few months after several years of not even touching a guitar...medical issues.Anyways sorry for the long post.Thx.

I also forgot to add that I dont really understand the panning with guitars.I dont really play that well when it comes to multi tracking the guitars.I know for rock alot of peeps pann 1 right and 1 left but i dont double myself good enough,what would be anothe solution or advise for this situation.Would sending the same recorded track to another and then adding a very slight delay in the 2nd track work?I am very new to pc recording always used a Tascam 4 track that i had for several years back,more like 15 years...lol.thx

well your link didn't work so I cant listen and tell ya anything about the sound...
panning just spreads out the track better...if you record vocals and the guitars are in teh middle there isnt any room for the vocals to go and it will clog up the recording...and also panning adds fullness to sound of guitars...

I think panning is a really fascinating topic as the rules seem to have changed over the years and are now pretty uniform on a standard mix. I always like to mix songs as if I am looking at the band but convention would have it that the drums, bass and vocals are always in the centre and the guitars and keys, perc Backing etc are panned with varying degrees to either side. Listen to some old recordings and you will hear all sorts of different attempts with drums and vocals panned hard right or left. I guess there are no real rules so just experiment and have fun
