Porblem with recording

Hey, ive had this problem over time with a few audio recording interfaces (lexicon alpha, lexicon omega, and now the line 6 toneport ux2). Its fair enough for general soundcard-ish properties, but seen as i bought these for recording, i wanna do it lol

anyhow, i should start with how ive got it set up. (the alpha and omega were slightly different) for the toneport, i have the device hooked up through usb to my pc (quad core cpu and 2 gb ram), and then my speakers coming out of the tonport's line outs (some people seem to have it coming out of the headphone, but 6 and half a dozen it seems). On a website i found, it had an insication of two connections to the pc from the soundcard, as if maybe im supposed to connect it via a jack to internal soundcard aswell as the usb, but i havent done this. i dont see why, as wouldn't the internal one have a processing delay (which is exactly my problem, once i get to it haha)

so, when i record, or just play some guitar, i get a slight delay.

its not an effect in gearbox (the accompanying software), but more, a time delay before the sound comes out my speakers. Although its only slight, it is very distracting while recording, as it means i have problems with recording another piece over an existing piece (say 'lead' over 'rhythm' at different times.)

The latency seems okay, but i say this based on 2 things-

1) in cubase... (i think it's Tools>device setup>asio or something
it has the three options (asio ux2, wdm, and the other asio ones i think), and the lowest latency ones are obtained through the normal asio ux2 option (first value is around 25, second around 50, but i dont know exactly what these values correspond to as im not on my own pc at the moment.)

2) the buffer option for the ux2 which i access through gearbox is set to the option which uses most processor power (when i fiddle with this, and put it to every option available, it doesnt make any difference with the delay i experience.)

oh, and a side note, ive had this poblem loads of time, and ive recently formatted my hard drive and started from scratch again. (my system usually stays relatively clean)

I apologise for being long-winded, im just sooo frustrated, i hate this, and everywhere on the net gives this device such good reviews lol

thanks for any help u guys can give.

Cheers,

Paul Andrew

i couldnt find much help on the site, but i think ive found a solution to my problems, so i thought i should post here incase anyone else has the sae ones.

1)so i tried updating my motherboard software, as i though maybe my drivers werent up to date, and had somehow made my usb ports runs at 1.0 instead of 2.0, so i did that (which didnt solve my problem, but is defo worth doing.)

2) i downloaded ASIO4ALL software free and had a tinker around with it. it has user controlled features which are more detailed than other ASIO drivers. I was able to find a decent setting to minimise the lag/delay/out of sync that i was hearing. The best way to see if ASIO4ALL is making a difference is to have it running at the same time as gearbox to try and reduce the lag.

3) i tried these settings using headphones rather than the speakers i was using, and there was no audible delay.

Thus, after days of frustration, i think ive realised that the problems were a combination of software and hardware.

So, to close.... download the drivers to see if it helps, and try it with different speakers! I tried with both actual speakers and with my samsung hdtv, and with both i was experienceing the lag of output sound.

hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

Catch y'all later.
