Randy Rhoads tone with Guitar Port?

Hey guys, has anyone with guitar port discovered the magic settings for RR's tone or something very close?

Thanks!

Re: Randy Rhoads tone with Guitar Port?

Man, I used to get his sound from a King Biscuit Flower Hour concert off the radio in 1982.

If you can, get a rectified type tone, split it one dry and wet or use effect mix, blend in a slightly off pitch sound by using a pitch transposer or harmonizer if you have the capability in the Guitar Port, and mix it with the dry sound and voila!!
I use a J-station and can nail just as I did in the 80's.

It can be done with a chorus as well. Splitting and mixing one dry and one wet is the key to get that huge sound.

Use a beefy rectified sound with high output pickups and you should get real close. Dimarzio Super Distortion or Duncan Distortion.

Peace and Good Luck, ET

Hey Formulaet bro I'm trying at the moment to get Randys sound from Flying High Again and I too have a J-Station and it is superb. Although I've sort of got his sound near its still not 100% just wondered if you have a good patch to get me closer as I think you've convinced me you have nailed it, would love your help.

Re: Randy Rhoads tone with Guitar Port?

Hey Guys. To my fellow J-station user.
..........This is my interpretation of that radio concert.......

Rectified patch, set treble, mid and bass to your liking, I like alot of bass!!

Go to your manual for deep level edit to edit the pitch transposer. There is a fine tune adjust on that patch.

Man, forgive me I'm at work and don't know the exact program numbers.

Anyway, find the detune patch and move it either up or down to slightly "detune" your guitar signal.

The effect must be after the preamp section.
Get out of deep-level edit and mix it in slightly with the dry signal..........voila.........Randy Rhoads (actual) concert mix for 1982!!!

rockonthis21, sorry I don't have the connections and stuff to transfer the info. via the net from my J-station. I could write down exactly but I think you guys are way-talented and can get the jist by my posting....sorry again.

Remember you're detuning slightly, to your preference, and then mixing it with a dry signal.

This is for that radio program, why they didn't mix this sound in the Live Tribute album 1987 is way-beyond my comprhension..........."What were they Thinkin'!!!'

Peace, I hope you guys love it!!

Re: Randy Rhoads tone with Guitar Port?

Please forgive my "rookie" recording question but what exactly does it mean to mix something "wet or dry"? I'm still trying learn to pan tracks correctly. I know nothing about J-station or patching so if anyone could fill me in I'd appreciate it. I only have Guitar port and Cakewalk GT

Thanks.

Re: Randy Rhoads tone with Guitar Port?

Man, you're doing about as good as I, I had cakewalk then dumped it 'cause I never use it.

Wet= effected guitar signal
Dry= regular guitar signal

Your processor should have some type of effect/mix adjustment, possibly. Read your manual and it might reveal itself to you.

Stereo outputs from an effects (stomp) pedal can split the signal, if needed. As well as using the 'old' 1/4" Y-jack.

I hope this helps.

Peace, and Good Luck.....you're now going even further on your guitar journey.

How about a DiMarzio X2N with those settings?

Would a bridge DiMarzio X2-N be too much output?
