Probably the most common sense post ever.
However, since we moved into our house a year ago, my "office" room, has been used as a basic junk room. The move was delayed by the guy at the bottom of the chain, and since we had decided to move ourselves (i.e. without hiring a removal company), we only got 1 hour's use out of the Ford Transit van that we had hired.
Also, as we were moving out of a one bedroom house, there was no space to pack everything up and we kinda planned on a pack up whilst simultaneously transporting stuff. Anyway, everything was screwed up, and to cut a long story short, I ended up throwing everything in the back of my Ford Fiesta, driving to the new house, chucking it in the new house and then going back for another load. This took the whole day and the whole night. I finished at 8:30 the following morning after starting at 4 p.m. !!!
Consequently, we are still sorting stuff out a year on down the line.
Anyway, everytime someone came to stay over, all the items that had not yet been sorted would be put into my "office" and the door closed, to give the impression of a tidy house.
Well, this weekend, I finally got round to tidying out the loft, and then tidying out the "office". Before now, I had stuff all over the floor, and the POD XT was rested on top of my P.C. tower. The headphones cable would always get in the way, and I always had to crouch over the POD XT because the cable wasn't very long. So, about 50% of my takes would screw up, because I'd catch the cable, or I was in a bad posture and couldn't reach a fret, or something else.
Well, I sorted my desk out and put the POD XT in pride of place in the middle of the desk. I can now reach everything easily, I can lean back, and I have room to move and breath when recording. I can't believe it has taken me this long to sort it out. Well, I can, the other rooms took priority, but I can't believe I actually put up with this recording environment for so long.
Last night I noodled around and was having the balls to attempt
Gary Moore's -
Still Got The Blues, and
Bon Jovi's -
Never Say Goodbye. May seem easy, but it was the first time I tried playing both songs playing multiple guitar parts together by myself (i.e. proper multitracking). Made it sound a whole load better !!!
Canyon Carver touched on the differences having an instant, ready to go set up made, but I have to tell you, it is worth putting the effort in to have a comfortable recording environment and easily accessible set up.
Like I say, stating the obvious, but bloody hell. It makes so much difference !!!
If I ever nail that
Gary Moore tune, I'll post it, but those bends, like wahwah said, sound shit if you don't hit everyone perfect. Good practise for an amateur like me though !
