i use sonomawireworks riffworks standard and guitarport with gearbox, also have a jamlab for an interface so i can get my amps and stomps recorded when i want, instead of the many pre-sets of amps and tones and effects. sometimes i use all of them in 1 tune, lol.
anyway, this program is real easy and has great support and is pretty much all you need to start recording.
there are plenty of drums of all styles you can buy, also you can use rex files and rewire.
another great part of the package is rifflink, which people with the riffworks can collaborate with people anywhere who has it. i live in hong kong and have collaborated with people from texas to germany. we can im eachother as we record guitar parts and talk about anything.
the sonoma people are great and accessible like no other i have found.
the forums are great and informative. support is incredible and fast.
riffworld.com
go and check it out for yourself, to hear what people are doing with this program. i've completed tunes in several hours, from idea to mixing and posting.
this is a great deal for anyone who plays and doesn't want to spend big bucks and read manuals for weeks at best.
ya, i sound like a shill, but i use it and have used garage band and probably won't use anything else. upgrades are ongoing, new features added, new drummers.
there is a free demo you can try.
slight downside is system requirements, 1 gig ram is what will tackle anything you want to lay down, it will run well on 512mb.
i'm an old guy with limited tech knowledge and patience but i love it and am finding more ways to use it all the time without getting frustrated in the meantime.
what i've said is a fraction of what you can find out.

sorry for the long post and hello
