Sound Blaster Audigy Question

Hello,

I’m looking into upgrading my cheap internal sound card to something decent. I’ve been reading about the Sound Blaster Audigy card on this board with some mixed reviews. After going to the Sound Blaster site, I see that there are a ton of Audigy cards, but ones that appear the best for home recording are the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum & Platinum Pro. These two models appear to have an external interface.

Do any of you out there have either of these models and what do you think? Also, right now I’m using the PODxt for recording – and the cable goes to a USB port. It didn’t look like these Audigy models had any kind of USB port – the inputs appear to be ¼ audio jacks, midi, or firewire. I guess that I would need to use the MIDI out to record with the POD, but will that yield better recording quality? Your assistance and feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Sound Blaster Audigy Question

With the POD XT, you record using your USB port, so a soundcard isn't necessary and won't improve the quality at all. You can record using the line in, but USB will give you the best quality and with no latency.

Thanks, PG! I guess that I had it my head that the sound card affected the recording process somehow.

Ok, so where it will make a difference to have this fancy soundcard will be in using it for recording from a mic. I appreciate the help - and thanks for helping me save money!

Re: Sound Blaster Audigy Question

You just pump it back through your POD XT and plug your headphones into it....

POD XT just gets listed as another sound device.

However, if you're in Paltalk, and you want to jam along to a backing track and have people hear the backing track and your playing, then you indeed need a soundcard, and connect your POD in through the line in.

Cheers,

Couldn't you just load up the GuitarPort software and play the backing in that. Not sure if that would work in PalTalk or not

Re: Sound Blaster Audigy Question

It's very annoying that playing throught the guitarport software(podxt) that the volume alters the guitar and the backing track at the same time...or am i confused..the player is crap anyway, better with winamp and the "pacemaker" plugin..methinks..

Re: Sound Blaster Audigy Question

i should point out that by changing your reccording freq from 44.1 to 48 eliminates latency on the Audigy soundcard !
