What Sound Card?
I am looking to buy a 1010 style soundcard. I like the Delta 1010 but I have just seen the Edirol FA101 firewire and that seems pretty spot on for what I need. Then there is the E-Mu 1820 and loads more. Which is your preferred card for a multi input/output around this price range?

If the Edirol was out when I bought my M-Audio I would have gotten it. That device kicks serious ass. E-mu is basically a Creative Labs. Some think they rock. I dunno. The firepod is also very nice, especially if you are going to start racking things. only 100 more at $600 USD.

Oh, for the money (it has since dropped in price) I would still recommend the m-audio firewire 410. It is just a very well built piece of equipment. You can find them for $250 USD. Crystal clear preamps, dead slient recording. The Edirol has more ins/outs but if all you need are 2 ins (actually it has 4 but only 2 are analog) and 10 outs (i route sound to several speakers and loop back into the board) then for the price and the features it is pretty hard to beat this unit.
I really like how I can take it, the laptop loaded with Cubase SE, a few mics, a modeller and just go record anywhere when we're hanging out...basement recordings, relatives' houses, etc. For me the portability of it is a major plus.

Many thanks Sting!! I have also found a german supplier for the Yamaha i88x at less than half price. Very tempting. UK price £749 and £318 in Germany. That looks like a bargain.

BTW YYZ, Have you seen the CGI Animation of Neil Peart playing YYZ? it is a big file 43Meg but it is worth the download - http://www.bobbysbrane.com/animation...video-Rush.wmv

Unbelieveable. I ordered the Yamaha i88x from www.Thomann.de and they come back and said, and I quote
Quote:
|
Im afraid the YAMAHA I88X you have ordered is now no longer available - we have checked and Yamaha Europe and Asia are not distributing any longer - apologies. As such we were unable to process your order.
|
This is rubbish. The i88x was released jan 05. most sound cards havew a shelf live of 5 or more years. I know what the problem is - they have it listed (or they did until they took it down yesterday) for a price that is below their trade price! I want them to honour the agreement but since they are a German based company and I am in the UK. For reference the best uk price for this unit is £749 and thomann/dancetech (thomann affiliate) were selling it until yesterday at £318 - you don't have to be a genius to see the saving. however Thomann and dancetech are both saying this product is no longer available.
THE BASTARDS!

Hey Goport, I purchased stuff from these guys before, thanks to a good friend of mine ( you know, word to word is the best thing to trust), and they are really trusty, at least for me

Yeah - I meant to check them out but I forgot the name of the site. I prefer Thomann because they are nearly always cheaper and have been very reliable in the past. However, since they failed to deliver on this occasion I have taken your advice and Ordered from MP! Many thanks BleedingPinky

nope - not in stock I will get it as soon as they get a new shipment. I since found it on zzounds for $399 - it is amazing that a piece of kit this good is being sold so cheaply.

I finally got a M-Audio Audiophile USB Soundcard which I figured would save in the long run as it's a stand alone unit so I won't have to fiddle about installing it into the guts of the PC. I'll let you know how I get along.
