2x12 cab recommendations
I'm looking for some help/advice before I buy a 2x12 cab. I've looked at marshall, mesa, carvin, and crate. I'm taking a day next week to go try some out, but I've always played through combos so don't feel to confident going out and buying one without some more info. I'm doing some gigs with a band that plays a wide range of music. I know we'll be doing some steve vai and buckethead covers, a hendrix cover, and then some original stuff. I'm borrowing a mesa duel rectifier from a friend, but I need to get a cab within a week or so. Any suggestions or advice?

I'm going to eventually be in the market for a 212 myself and I've been intrigued by the Genz Benz G-Flex.
Unless I hear differently, I think that's what I'm going to go with....

212 Cab
First IMO, I would narrow it down to Marshall, Mesa or any reputable name that uses good hardware and great speakers, then check fo ohms reference to match the Amp Head, then a good Celestion, Eminence or Jensen speakers inside. I think it's better if you actually hear the sound to see if that's the sound you want. In some case, the difference in prices on 212's and 412's are not that much. CHEERS!!!

These are great speakers from Carvin.

The Legacy 2x12 is 50.00 more but has the same speakers in it.

wow thanks for all of the suggestions. From what I've tried so far, I think i'm going to go with something with vintage 30's, that seems to be the sound I'm looking for. So far I'm leaning toward a marshall or mesa, but I would love to try the genz benz if I cound find a dealer near by. The carvin looks nice to, but again, no dealer nearby to try one out.

The closest Carvin store to you is Sacramento that's a pretty good drive north for you. I can check around on the Carvin Museum site to see if there is somebody close to you so you can check them out if you like.

Cool, that would be awesome. I've always heard good things about carvin, but it's still hard for me to buy stuff that I've never played. I appreciate the help, thanks!

If you want something dirt cheap that sounds good, get the standard avatar cab with the G12H30 and V30 combo.
If you've got a little more $$, get their premier vintage cab with a pair of their hellatone 60L's.
If you've got money to burn, buy a Port city Music 2X12 wave cab. It will absolutely annhiliate every 2X12 on the planet. Genz benz, bogner, VHT, Mesa, orange, ear candy, you name it. NOTHING will project sound and power like the port city cabs.

Also, I'm a huge carvin fan and even have a legacy 4X12 myself with various celestions in it but their 2X12's leave quite a bit to be desired. They're not very loud and sound rather boxy. You have to open the back up to get any decent sound and even then, for the price, the cheapest of the avatar cabs will still smoke them. I know. I've owned both. The legacy 2X12 got sent back via their 10 day return policy.

I just bought a SONIC 2X12 ext cab from Daddys.com.
They didnt have very many reviews on HC, but the ones there were good.
I took a chance without hearing it so....
It has clone V30's in it and it was CHEAP. $200 shipped.
I'll report back with opinion when I get it.
