Amp repair question. Help my nephew out please.

My nephew is playing a show for his high school buddies this week so I let him borrow my Marshall cab. He liked the sound of my Super Bassman so his dad bought him a Fender blackface Bassman. I've never seen it but I assume it looks much like this:

Well.... Matt hooked his 4 ohm head into the 8/16 ohm side of the cabinet. It didn't hurt the cab a bit, but he said his head squealed then smoked a little bit right above a tube then the fuse blew. He said he replaced the fuse, hooked it up correctly and turned it on and it is making a loud hum.

I told him to take it to be repaired because he probably burned something up. He thinks it's just a tube. Anyone on here have any experience or advice about this?

What he did with the cabinet did not hurt the amp at all....there is just no way. The amp most likely has a bad power tube. I would find/borrow some known good tubes and try that first before taking to a shop.

Thanks VHF!

It burned up a resistor. Easy fix.
