well I played through a Marshall Kerry King model the other day and this amp is now the only Marshall I will say I MUST HAVE!! LOL It's a fucking monster.
I have to agree when it comes to getting great feedback that a tube power amp is king all around. I would bet the tones you could get out of running through a Rocktron Prophecy II preamp into a Boogie Simul290 power amp would be so numerous, that no pure tube amp could compete.

Thats the truth, man! Its good to keep an open mind about all the options for tone - things are evolving so fast

Digital. The versatility of the GNX4 for such a price is too much to pass up.

i like the touch response from a mildly overdriven tube amp. who says you cant get tube amp sound at a reasonable price $150 valve junior.....well with a few mods of course.

Tuibe amp all the way, Tube screamer on the front end though. I am a big fan of lower power tube amps 20 -30 watts cranked n'mic'ed.
Each to his own......

I don't think it's gonna take ten years. IMO, the AxeFx delivers. I've never been more satisfied with any gear purchase and it's actually cured my amp and effects gas. Guitars are another story...

Tube for me
TSL60 with 1936 2x12
Nice tidy quarter stack is my prefered choice for live.
Recording? I can't get past my POD XT for giving some fantastic sounds with less live recording issues.

I have SS amps and digi fx, however have been interested in at least giving a tube amp a try (too bad they're always so expensive).
I've had a couple of musicians talk up their tube amp setups and this one guy was kinda busting on what I had. He talked about his Reverend tube amp and the custom tube screamer pedal he had made by some dude in arizona, which brought my question "if your tube amp sounds so damn good, how come you need to put a 250 dollar pedal in the signal chain?" He said "good point, I guess" and let it go....
I currently us a POD 2.0 and have thought about running through a tube head to kinda get a little added "warmth" (not sure if it even helps).....
Just my opinion. As they've said about EVH, a lot of it is in the fingers anyway....

I have been using a Vox Valvetronix AD120VT and a Tonelab LE for a couple of years. They have 1 tube (called a valve in UK) to assit the digital modelling. They are very good at producing a wide variety of tones sounding very similar to the original amps. However when I purchased a Marshall JVM 410C recently the difference was really obvious - especially when looking for the subtle clean to overdrive settings - I can get a really clean responsive tone when playing quietly and a warm saturated OD when I play louder. Basically - digital is convenient but tube (valve) is the real thing.

I like them all. I play through my tube amps, and sometimes just go back to plugging into my Valvetronix or even my Marshall MG solid state. I think all have their own unique characteristics and tone, plus sometimes late at night, a solid state is definitely less deafening than a tube amp.

I didnt vote - its not fair to.
I love valve amps, and would always go for them - until I came accross the Axe-FX.
I sold a VHT and Bogner with plently of pedals after I got mine - now its the only thing I use.
Having said that - its the only modeller Id use. If I couldnt use that I would go back to valves. Moddellers dont do it live for me appart from the axe.
A couple of clips. Nothing special - just a digi camera on a table. An out of tune Tele, and sloppy skills n places - BUT - it should give an idea !!
Its going through a Solid State power amp and my VHT 2x12 cab - at low bedroom levels. (sounds even better LOUD!)

I use both tubes and digital
I use a Bugera 333XL live, which has been slightly modified for longevity (It's sort of being tamed to be my "super-amp"). I need a full 120 watts of volume sometimes, our drummer and bassist have some ridiculously high powered rigs themselves.
At home I use a Behringer V-Amp Pro, because the amplifier is too loud for playing at night. I don't think my neighbors appreaciate having long metal and new wave serenades at 3 a.m. from a 120 watt halfstack, even through a 1X12 that 333XL is too loud. That sound I modeled up on my V-Amp is the prototype for the sound I found in the Bugera anyway. It's a little more "cardboard" but that's to be expected. I don't expect the same from digital modeling that I do tubes.

I'd have to say that I lean toward tubes, but the digital variations that keep coming out are making it hard for me to stick to that idea. I've heard a lot of new versions lately that sound awfully good!
