CCR V-Amp Pro tones?

Any one have any idea how to even get close? I can get pretty close to the sound used on "Green River" but "Born on the Bayou" is driving me crazy. I either end up too distorted or too clean, can't find the in-between sweet spot.

It would help if I could find some information on what kind of set-up and amps they used when recording.

Might be just amp tremolo on those tunes, but didn't John Fogerty usually play Rickenbackers (325s?) and use mostly solid-state amps, or perhaps Fender Dual Showmans?

BTW, I always liked that CCR "Bad Moon"/"Proud Mary" shimmer coming from those chimey, clangy Ricky p/ups... :drunk:

I think I figured it out, (on the V-Amp Pro) I set it to classic clean, turned on the drive, put the gain knob at 10:00 and put a little tremolo on it.

It sounds pretty dang close...

You can absolutely nail the "Bad Moon" and "Proud Mary" sound using a Gibson ES175D in D tuning and a decent tube amp (MB Mark IV for me). I believe both were played on a 175D in the recordings, the main guitar at least.
