Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.....
.......Does anybody know anything about these? Are they any good? I was wondering because i saw one today for about 400USD which is 150 less than the musiciansfriend.com price. Also, I've heard some pretty negative things about the Hod Rod DeVille, and was wondering if this is any better, or is about the same.
thanks

Not good dude. Well, if you're playing country or something like that it's good. But judging by your screen name, you might consider a Peavey.

Don't get me wrong, I like to "shred", but im no Yngwie J. Malmsteen by any stretch of the imagination . Personally, im a big fan of the fender amps for the clean channels. I was thinking that if I got a good overdrive pedal, like a DS-1, or even a Radial Tonebone if I had the cash, then that would be fine.......If there was a marshall or peavey that had a clean channel and reverb as nice as the fenders, as well as a good overdrive, then im all ears .

My next amp will be the Hotrod Deville 4x10, Just play one and you'll see... Also read the reviews, they will give an idea of capabilities and such.

they are awesome.
if you want cleans, go fender (for budget amps)
if you have some serious cash, fuchs amps cant be beaten for anything. cleans, distortions, anything.

I owned a Hot Rod Deluxe for about 7 years (bought it when they first came out). Loved it. It is an all around fantastic tube amp. If your a fan of the Fender clean tone, like you say, you will not be dissapointed. However, it is not a stand alone "shred machine," but this can easily be remedied with the pedal of your choice. The drive and more drive channels are nice, but they will disappoint anyone looking for a metal type distortion.
Word of caution: this amp is fairly heavy and the 40 watts it puts out is LOUD -- surprisingly loud! This is why I eventually gave it up. I am mostly an "at home" player and I could barely crank the volume past 2 without vibrating all the windows in the house.

the reason they are loud at 2 is because of the linear taper volume pot. it should be a logarithmic audio taper. that is an easy mod to do. fender does this to make the amp seem louder in the store when actually its not much louder at 6.

i recently purchased one of these and so far i love it. the clean channel is great and the overdrive is good for a blues/ classic rock sound which is just what i was looking for. from what i hear, it takes pedals very well. my advice is try one out and see if u like it.

Right on the money.
If you gig it will cut the mustard because it is loud enough to stay clean and be heard. I've had mine for almost 10 years. A good pedal will make a huge difference if you want more modern rock sounds. The overdrive channel is not the best for that. Stay on the clean and ad a Tonebone Hot British or the like and you'll be very happy.
To reassure you it is a totally professional amp. The guitarist for the Little River Band uses one and I don't think you are allowed in to a Platinum and Grammy band if your equipment sucks. $400 is a fair price for a clean well cared for one.
