I posted this on another forum I spend time on. I normally donut like to repeat myself but I am so pleased with this product I wanted to give it more exposure. I am sure more than a handful of you will find this of interest. So, on that note...
I thought I would pass my review of this device.
What the hell is it?
Carl's Volume Box is a $20.00 USD device that you place in the
effects loop of your tube amplifier. Like an attenuator, this device allows you to crank the tubes and really PUSH them, without blowing your ears out. Turn the volume up as high as you want, then adjust the overall volume with the volume box...doesn't get any simpler.
Does it really work?
Carl advertises, actually STRESSES, that this device will not harm your amp, requires no modifications, and will allow your amp to sound its best by really allowing you to push the tubes. Carl more than delivers on his words. This is actually even more useful on amps that have extremely touchy volume controls...like the Fender Hot Rod series. It isn't easy to crank them in the house because they simply get too loud. I can see this really being beneficial to you guys who own these Fender amps, and I know quite a few of you do.
Bottom Line?
For a measly $20.00 USD you cannot go wrong with this. It does exactly what it advertises and in spades! If you don't want to spend several hundred dollars on an attenuator, this is your ticket. I will provide recordings when I get some time off during the holidays. All I can say is that I wasn't too sure how well it would work and I am very pleased with my purchase. I can make my Classic 30 scortch...even can drive it to metal tone, it's that unreal.
