POD or Vamp ?

Hey Everyone

I've recently started to get enough money to buy a POD or something similar that i've been definately hanging out for .. (sick of mic'ing up the amp for average sound)

the thing is i've seen the Vamp for about 150 bucks less than the pod ... is the pod really that much better ? . what are the differences ? sorry if this question has been fielded before but i really just want to make the right choice !

I've heard people using both on these boards .. i'm just wondering what would you guys suggest i do ? buy the vamp or pour some extra coin in and get the pod ?

Stig......you of all people know how to do a search and find this topic which has been beat to death around here.....pretty embarrasing to have to close your own thread.

There are differences....biggest one being that the POD XT has a built in USB preamp. Now the POD XT has a lot of "upgrade packs" that add stompboxes in the mix along with all the amps, effects and speaker cabinets.

Vamps and Pod 2.0's are about $100US on E-bay....POD XT's are $300 new....and there are never any used ones around......which should tell you something.

Re: POD or Vamp ?

Well, being that I have an artist personality type, I kinda always like to do my own thing, so I don't have either!

But I do have the Yamaha equivalent.
It is called the DG-Stomp

I really dig it. I don't really know much about the Pod or the V-amp, but I would like to encourage you to consider whether these two are your only choices. I got my DG-Stomp for about $165 about a year and a half ago as they were trying to get rid of them in preparation for the new models coming out, so I kind of got a good deal on mine. I don't know how much they are now, but mine has served me well. Good luck with whatever you go with.

Re: POD or Vamp ?

i have both the pod 2.0 and the v amp 2. the v amp 2 has better distortions in some areas.. and some on the pod rock. the flabger is better on the v amp 2 in my opinion after using both. the pre amp is more crystal and clearer for clean stuff to me and seems better on the v amp. i like em both. both have likes in dislikes to me. i dislike the fact that the v amp 2 doesnt have an on/ off switch. but the phaser and flanger effects you can dieal in better imo on the v amp. the british hi gain is more crunchy imo on the pod,, which i like. well i love em both! buy both of em stiglar! Re: POD or Vamp ?

If you're looking for POD XT quality sound for a V-Amp price, and you just want it for recording... then maybe you should check out the Line 6 GuitarPort! It's basically a scaled down POD XT(less amp models and effects). Main difference is the XT has the processor in the hardware and the GuitarPort uses your computer. For the price, it's definitely worth checking out

Re: POD or Vamp ?

I will certainly second the DG-Stomp. I have had mine for about two years and it is very versatile. It has a digital out, great effects, and nice amp models. Another plus is that it sounds really good through the front of an amp or efx loop. I use it straight into my '79 JMP Marshall all the time. It is not a metal machine but can come close with the right tweaking. The cleans are sensational.

I have not tried the POD units, but I have tried the Vamp and thought it was very nice.

Peace,
vaporpark

Re: POD or Vamp ?

I have a VAmp which I am pleased as punch with. Check out some of my recordings if you want to hear it. Also, you can download patches made for the POD tot he USB interface for the VAmp, but you can't go backwards.

Most importantly, I don't use most of what my VAmp can do in the first place, so I know I certainly wouldn't use any of the POD. For me, why piss away the extra cash? Fuck that.

Re: POD or Vamp ?

From what I've heard on this board, they're both as good as each other.

In terms of supports and available updates, I can't vouch for the VAMP, but Line6 are really good at this. All can be gotten from their website for free, but if you want the extra packs (assuming PODxt) then you have to pay.

I have the PODxt, and the amount of stuff that it can do, and the software and tones available are amazing. However, I haven't used it to create my own tones yet. I just grab them off the net, then dial 'em in. So I guess I pretty much am just using it as a Guitar Port.

I'd suggest getting the PODxt, but that's only cuz you can then tell me how to use it when you've taken the time to read the manual . I just went straight to 12B and was blown away !

From what I have heard, I think you would be fine with the VAMP-2. However, the PODxt I have found is a piece of piss to use. Just plug it in, and away you go. Just remember how shit my sound was when I was micing the amp ? No matter what complaints I get from my postings nowadays, none of them are related to my tone anymore !

Re: POD or Vamp ?

I've just picked up a V-Amp 2 off evil bay and I already own a V-Amp Pro. The other guitarist in my band recently bought a V-Amp Pro too, as he was so impressed with the tones that I was getting from mine. He was especially impressed with how it reacted with the volume control on the guitar - just like a real amp. (He's owned a Pod 2.0 for a few years which is heading onto ebay. He also tried a Pod XT which he hated - didn't like the stomp effects and said they sounded crap!!!) Big for V-Amp's here!!!!

LMFAO This dwarf of a bitch at work talked a bunch of trash about me to my boss this afternoon. The only thing I could think is that people should be fucking honest or just die.

Mondy, you made my fucking day Glad to see some honesty as I had hoped for. Didn't expect to see it here, but why the hell not!?!

Re: POD or Vamp ?

I have found that the v-amp is much better live and good for nailing your own tone

the pod is much better for trying to model a particular tone

Re: POD or Vamp ?

I have only personally used the Vamp2 and Vamp pro....but after much research there are a lot of things the POD XT does in addition to them.....such as stomp boxes, several different mics, and mic locations....and Line 6 seems to be releasing new software revisions and features to keep the POD XT current.

I'm simply pointing out that if money is not the issue, check them both out to determine which is for you.

If money is tight....get the V-amp2 which is less than $100 on E-bay. EXAMPLE
