Thanks everyone for the kind words!

I've got a V-Amp2 as well. I love them both. I have found that one is not better than the other, just different. I just doubled the tones I can work with!

Thats where I started. I made sure everything was dimed, took out the phaser, switched cabs to the 20watters, and I think I changed the mic to dynamic. The thing that most helps pushing that sound closer is the right pickup. There are several that get you close. I would love to get the Duncan EVH model but $160 is to steep for me. I am using the Screamin Demon and it gets me very close. It is also a versatile pickup.
Here's the problem. The variac model is great for VH1 tone but to step up to VH2 or even Fair Warning it comes up short. I'm already on 10 but I need more saturation (insert
Spinal Tap pun here).
Seriously, any suggestions? Here is another clip where the need for more oomph is more obvious.
