Problem with PODxt and Line 6 Edit:
Hey guys, I just opened up my PODxt and I hooked it up to Line 6 Edit. Now the I connected the USB cable from the USB jack on the PODxt to the USB port in the computer, and Line 6 Edit won't recognize my PODxt. How do I get it to recognize the PODxt via the USB cable? I don't have one of those MIDI things and don't know what they are, they didn't come with the POD, only the USB did.
I pressed the Line 6 Edit and then continue, and then it was loading the Line 6 Edit. At around 40% it stopped at "configuring editor". It opened up something that read:
MIDI DEVICES
Select a Line 6 Device from the list below:
If you are using MIDI cables and do now see your device, click the "ADD" button.
Then it showed this blank part, and then below that, it read:
Refresh
Cancel Remove Add Ok
I don't get it. I hooked it up with the USB and it didn't notice the PODxt. Everything was hooked up to the Power and the USB was in its place and the power was on...So I clicked "Add", and it read:
MIDI in port
MIDI out port
Device
so I picked:
MPU401
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth
PODxt
So it showed a PODxt where the blank used to be. But the PODxt had a question mark on it. So it couldn't find the PODxt.
So if you can...please if you read tthis and know what to do so please reply. Thanks for reading!

First thing I would do is this....
Run the Line6 monkey software.
Go to www.line6.com/monkey
Download it from there.
Then without having your pod hooked up, Install the software and run it. It will instruct you on when to plug the pod in the usb port.
Use the monkey software to be sure your computer can see your pod and then you can also update the firmware through monkey.
If that works, then reinstall the line6 edit software and try to connect to it.
If you can connect to monkey then it is a line6 edit issue. If you cannot get the monkey software to see your pod, then it is a computer/usb error.
So first see if you can get monkey to see your pod and get it all updated before trying the edit software again.

This usually indicates a driver issue.

Before you start up the Line6 Edit, when you plug in your Pod, does window tell you it has found the device? If not, you probably don't have the drivers installed. As Splonky said, run the Line6 Monkey software. it should help you sort things out.

Ok thanks guys, I accidentally deleted/stopped the installation of the new drivers so I cance;lled it by an accident and then it wouldn't come up again even after the restart. So I will use the Line 6 Monkey, but will it change my POD factory set tones? If it should then could I stop it and is it a good upgrade for the tones or does it bcome worse?

The Line Monkey won't affect you tones at all, it just tells you what you have installed, and downloads the latest drivers, etc for you.

I uninstalled the Line 6 Edit program and installed it again, but no luck. So I downloaded the Monkey program and installed the drivers...and it said that once my computer brings up this icon that says that there are new drivers to be installed, I should press o.k. It also said that this may take some time...so I waited 5 minutes and it didn't work. I've tried this times, and I also tried installing the drivers from the Line 6 site but it did the same thing, no icon came up..Does anyone know what happened here? Cause the first time I ever plugged the POD into the USB..it had that Icon pop up that said USB Firmware/Drivers need to be installed. So why won't it ocme up now???

I just built a new system from scratch and had to reinstall all my shit over the weekend. Getting the PodXT going again on the new system couldn't have been easier. I downloaded the Line6 USB driver for XP, Line 6 Monkey, and Line 6 Edit. All I had to install was the driver (no reboot in XP!!!) and follow the directions. It was connected in no time. Then I plopped on Monkey and verified everything was up to date. Lastly, I slapped on Edit so I could manipulate my patches. I honestly cannot understand how this can be so problematic for someone.

NM! I FINALLY GOT IT TO WORK!! lol, I connected the usb from the front of the computer, an then I connected it from the back and it worked. I have all these new patches and tones now, it's great! Thanks for helping m guys, I appreciate it. Just I have two questions:
1. How do you record straight from your PODxt into lets say, audacity?
2. Could someone please send me a Slayer, Pantera, and Iron Maiden tone if you guys got any?
Thanks again!

Glad you got it working. Now you can quit being frustrated and start having fun. I see you started another thread about recording the pod with usb so I wont go into that here. You should be able to get some good tones from www.customtone.com if you have not already.

Ya I checked the site out, thanks anyways. Its pretty awesome that site, but still lacks some tones like Iron Maiden, Slayer, Pantera. So if you have any of those tones, please send me them at: guykawka@walla.co.il
Thanks
