Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
Ok, since there are so many of people on here with varied experience with these modellers I thought I could get some good feedback.
I have a Vamp-2, and I totally dig it. I would not have believed that you could get this good of a tone, this easily, ever. I have a question though: Do both the Vamp-Pro and the POD XT allow transfer/recording to your PC? I know they both have digital outputs, but has anyone here actually recorded using them? Any thoughts on sound quality?
That is the only thing that is missing from the V-Amp2 (and the POD 2.0, I believe for that matter) - the ability to get your recording digitally into your PC. Now that I hear how good amp modeling is these days, that is the next level I want to achieve: full digital capture.
Any thoughts or experiences with these 2 in this area? If they both do it, then I will stick with V-AMP because I like the tone, but if the VAMP-Pro does not do it, it might make me consider the POD XT to get that ability.
Thanks,
Amra

Re: Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
I own the pod xt pro and it is awesome.it has xlr's in and out ,usb,1/4 in and out.I record 3 to 5 days a week in all digital format and the quality is great.I will mike my cabs with sm 57's or go direct into the board and the quality is always there.i'm not to familiar with the v amp but I thought it was similar to the pod as far as recording.you should check out wah wahs sound clips in the top of this forum.

Re: Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
All the stuff I've done in tributes and originals is with a XT-I'm seriously selling my 5150 stuff because it's cluttering up the place and the XT does everything I need for recording...it's purely digital thru the USB and the only time it isn't is if you add something to the chain. I've had mine since January and the recordings (IMO) have got better and better. I'm not talking about my guitar work-just the tone and quality of the recording. If I had to put one forward that I thought captured it best, it'd be this one.

Thats got the floorboard wah and volume pedal included in the recording.

Re: Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
These guys above are correct. With the POD XT it has a pure digital out to the PC via USB (not the POD 2.0). With the V-amp2 it needs to be converted to analog first, then back to digital with a USB preamp....in the event that you want to record digital.
That being said, there is a way to get pure digital out of the V-amp Pro (not the V-amp 2) with a SPDIF digital output...but I cannot get it to work at this time.
If any Vamp Pro users have had success....please let me know.

Re: Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
I absolutely could not afford my PODxt, but I'd rather starve then to have gone through these last three months with out this damn thing. I've only just discovered the USB option and now it's benefits have gone through the roof! Just listen to Wahwahs clip, it's magnificent! I am still learning how to get a good recording, but now that I use a higher sampling rate the play back quality is nearly Identical to how the POD sounds through the headphones.
Try messing with the bit-rate on your recording equipment: sample at 32 bits vs. 16. When saving your audio file, save it at a minimum sample rate of 128Kbps.

Re: Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
Just to say, I sold my 5150 head yesterday and I'm now looking to get rid of the cab and buy a Vetta 2 as I'm convinced these things sound the best out there.

Re: Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
I no longer use my PODxt for recording direct, except for real quick stuff. I use my Vetta II HD via AES/EBU. It's slammin'! I hook my laptop up in the studio to quickly dial stuff up, rather than flipping through pages to set parameters. I do use my PODxt to power my 2 Atomic Amps for recording and live (smaller gigs) still.

I discovered (after actually reading the manual) that my sound card could not do 24 bit/96khz S/PDIF. Since I wanted to try it, I went down to GC and borrowed one. I was able to get it to easity work, but I actually prefer the analog sound out the XLR jacks. If you are looking for a really good sound card/preamp/mixer you might try the M-audio delta 1010LT which sells for about $229US.

Re: Question re: POD XT and V-AMP Pro recording abilities
I have about £150 and am planning on getting on POD but I'm not sure what to get... I only need it for recording songs to my PC to send to other people in my band... can the POD 2.0 do this or do you have to have the XT?
How much better is the XT than the 2.0? - Is it worth me saving up the extra £150?
And does anyone know of a recording device for a similar price that you can use to record drums as well?
