Running a PodXT into an amp but sounds crappy

ok, you get a Podxt, you have it and you can listen on headphones or direct input to your puter....but say that you want to run it to a combo amp to hear it w/o headphones....how would you do this?

Aside from the Atomic Reactor which is made to be a slave to the modeller, the Pod manual claims that you can only send the output of the Podxt to LINE LEVEL not guitar or mic inputs....

Additionally, the Podxt Live claims that you can set the output to correspond to the type of cab youre running and if you are running with a power amp and want to bypass the pre-amp part of the combo....

So, saying I have a Peavey Solid-State combo w/an effects loop and a PodXt (not the Live PodXT), what would be the best way to set this up to sound right?

If this is a novice question, its b/c I am a novice to all this. When I was playing regularly, ADA MP-1 preamps w/a SS Power Amp were all the rage. Soldanos were just coming into the own and no way I could afford a Boogie.....

If anyone else has some other good links for modeller questions, could they post here and I will check it out so that I spare all on this forum time answering questions that have been answered previously and I am just too computer retarded to find them with the "searcH" feature.

Thanks
Paul

You want to bypass the preamp of the amp. Does the amp have an effects/bypass loop? If so, use that. If not set your amp on a neutral clean channel. Most Pod users use either keyboard amps, monitors or power amps.

Check out section 3.5 in the user manual, set your amp to a neutral setting and experiment with it, but your amp itself should be pretty much a clean tone with not much volume, use the pod for that and adjust b/w the 2 till you find what works for you! Good luck! (btw, I still use my ADA power amp in my rig, bought it in '88!)

Try to plug it into your effects return. Also you may want to mess around with the switch on the the back that will either say line or amp (I think). It'll sound good, just mess around with it a bit.

As far as effects loops and all....

I have the Peavey Bandit 112 circa 1993-1994. It has an effects loop (send/return) and in the rear it has preamp out/power amp in. Which would be the best way to run this?

Is the "RETURN" of the effects loop the same as a line-level input?

Any suggestions for a quality keyboard amp/monitor/power amp?

I know that my buddy who I have lost touch with since about 2 years ago but stayed with the music scene swore that a Pod Xt and Boogie 20/20 Power Amp gave him a dead-on George Lynch sound, which would be more than ok with me but anything with the "Boogie" tag on it will fetch a pretty penny, even on eBay.

Thanks
Paul

There are lots of suggestions for ways to run your POD.

I have a Behringer KX1200 keyboard amp that I picked up for under $200 that is a great flat reponse / full range amp with a 15" in it.

There is a forum on the Line6 board that you can search and find many different solutions.

In your manual (if u still have it) there is a section that tells you how to change what you connecting your POD too. I Think mine is set to digital input or something. But you can change this to many options. If i have mine set to a combo amp it sounds like absolute shit, so mess around with this option.

I dont remember off hand how to do this but i can look it up later if you dont have a manual.

Edit- Ucby already said what I did. Mines set to Studio Direct and I connect to a Hughes and Kettner Solid state half stack. Sounds beautiful to me.

Here is how I run my modelers into any type of combo amplifier, both solid state and tube.

I use a Digitech GNX2 and a Tonelab tabletop but I used to have a PodXT and the technique is the same.

I plug the modeler with mono output set at direct as if you are going into a mixer board straight into the guitar input of the amp, (I have two types of combo amps a solid state for daily practice and a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for live work) I set the output volume control of the modeler to sound just about the same volume as the straight in guitar signal. I then use the guitar amps volume controls to set the output volume of the amp. For any passive tube or solid state tone control amps I set the Mids all the way up and all of the other tone controls including the presence all the way down, this is "flat" for any tube or soilid state amp with tone controls that go from 1 to 10. If the Tone controls have cut and boost then just center all of them.

Now a lot of people will tell you to bypass the preamp of a combo amp or tube head but I have found that the amp is quieter using the amp pre, and if the tone controls are set flat the tone is exactly the same as the bypassed pre tone. Also you get to use the preamp volumes for amp volume control and after a bit you can use the tone controls lightly to fine tune your sound.
