That Warren DeMartini Sound...

Can anybody tell me how to set my JCM MKII (2203) 100W Marshall Amp to get that DeMartini Sound? What effects does DeMartini use and what's the setting for these?

It would be great, if anybody could tell me the settings, or at least what do you do to get a Ratt Sound (Out of the cellar era)...

I cant tell you the exact specs of his amps or effects but from his sound on a lotta live vids it sounds like he just uses a lotta Over Drive, so you could try just CRANKING the drive on your amp and seeing where that takes you and then decide for yourself if you need more or not. RATT's sound doesn't strike me as the distortion heavy kind, more just all out over driven amps!

So should i crank the master and add lot of pre-amp gain? Or can i keep the master low, just the pre-amp on 8-10?

Yer lookin' at Robin Crosby's side of the stage.

Plus look at 3:10 or 3:11 on this link http://youtube.com/watch?v=oknCEr_2-...elated&search=
(from the same set they played as the link you posted) and pause it. That's Warren's amp behind him, and it's a Laney.

If you are talking about the tone on the album, it was a Marshall 100 watt Super Lead, I forget the year. Seventy something... Some story about George Lynch trying to steal it from him as well, I forget the details.

DeMartini used Laneys on this tour, I know because I saw them. Eventually Robin used Laneys more than Warren did.

As far as his tone, you can probably get close with the Marshall.

He was very fond of a big mid boost. He did a trick with an 800 hz boost, and cut, something about before and after the preamp. Search around, you can probably find something on it. His tone without the band wasn't that great, almost too bright, but man, when things kicked in, it cut like a knife. He really didn't use terribly high gain contrary to what you might think, he did use a fair amount of compression, and jacked up the level so it acted like a gain boost.

The Laneys at that time were about the only amp besides a Boogie that had more than the stock Marshall gain boost (unless your Marshall was modded). They had a great tone right out of the box, and a little compression was all that really was needed.

Another thing about Warren is as many notes as he played, and how clearly they come out was proof that his tone was lower gain than most. He also used stainless steel picks.

Warren was an exceptionally clean player. Loved his stuff then, and now.

From the video I hear some stereo chorus and of course an EQ....try to add some heavy chorus and play around with the EQ and you should be pretty close.
