Tubes???

Tubes????

I have a 2 channel 4 band parametric eq that has 2 tubes in it and I want to change them to better ones, not those dam stock crap tone ones.

I want them to be able to give a really thick tone and be able to handle massive distortion! So theres that many of the god damn lil buggers and I just cant seem to see which one is right for me!?

I think there are some that can handle more gain like the JJ's, I'm not sure if what you need might be a good grade of inverter-type tube. There are of course an abundance, even the EI gold-tips that are supposed to rival Telefunkens.....not sure.
Try the TubeDepot.com, and LordValve, some NOS types might be the way as well.

?????????????????

First what EQ is it that has 2 tubes in it? And what type of tubes are they? Basically what the hell are you talking about? is the EQ built in to the amp? or Separate? And tubes in the EQ section aren't gona create distortion, only the gain stage. Dude learn how to play first then we'll tailor your sound!

well dude i know how to play for starters and i have a warhead combo and my eq is a rack format, behringer, 4 band, 2 channel eq which each channel is powererd by a tube. these tubes are 12ax7's and my main question is just what tubes is there that can handle lots of distortion because it is run through my effects loop. and my amp has insanely huge gain and well im thinking that the 12ax7s just cant cope but im new to tubes so yeahhh...... im a bit of a noob on this stuff and i know my first post ere wasnt to explained very well lol.

Ok now we know where you go to.

Ok good, glad we got the “you can play” thing right, cause I can’t! I’m familiar with your amp from the earlier post when we were trying to help out. Now I am assuming you have this EQ TUBE ULTRA-Q T1951? I first recommend that you put the EQ in front of the amp, not thru the FX loop. You have to remember that a Vacuum Tube compresses naturally, there for the more you push it, the more its gona saturate and compress; and may actually get muddier. Remember that a tube has a tendency to “warm up” the sound, not make it Extreme. Also I don’t know if the FX loop in the Warhead is buffered or not so that can be an issue. A parametric EQ is not as easy to use as a graphic EQ, but once you get them down; they can do a lot. So try plugging it into the input of your amp and let us know what happens. And don’t worry about being a Noob to Tubes just keep using them. If you are dead set on changing the tubes see if you can find a set of NOS 7025’s they are much more Hi-Fi and can have a little more gain and less microphonics.

"fiddle with your knobs", by the sound of things you got it all taken care of. Very nice amp I remember those, those were Vox's answer to the Marshall stack. Do you remeber if it's a (Lead-1 or Lead-2)? You said it had Vox Blues (bulldogs) originally in it and you changed them to Celestion 80's? I thought those came stock with two 65 watters in that funky ported cabinet? Man I bet it sounds sweet, keep the Filter caps and the rect. in-shape in that thing will sound great forever.

That mustang is kinda cool, who did those mods?
Would love too hear that amp recorded raw by itself.

Take Care.

For a good tone in a 12ax7 I'd go find yourself some good old Mullard tubes. Check e-bay or post a request over at the plexipalace as there's a bunch of old tube hounds over there...

Just so you know alot of the old mullard (Telefunken, Siemens, Amperex, and Brimar) tubes were made in the Tesla Factory in the Slovak Republic and if you don't want to spend a fortune on the Mullard NOS tubes try the JJ/Tesla tubes.

cool dude ill try putting it in front soon as i can, yes it is that t1951 eq that ive got. well my amp has already got a 9 band graphic eq so i thought if i bought like a 31 band graphic it would just be overkill so went with the parametric which does make my tone very versatile now and with the tubes it just warms it up nicely but it sounded as if it was coping to much from the amp in the loop so your idea sounds very promising! cheers but if it still is abit iffy ill really check into some replacement tubes!
