V-Amp went down
So a few weeks ago, we had a massive power surge and my V-Amp wouldn't come back to life. Guitar Center wouldn't do anything for me (I bought it there in March, limey bastards), so I had to call Behringer and get them to warranty RMA it for repairs.
Sent it down to the shop they advised, and a couple weeks later I get it back. Works good as new, but of course I lost all of my tweak tones.
I spend 2 weeks getting everything back to almost-normal with the little paper notes I made, and then... the damn thing goes out again on Thursday night. So now I've gotta' send it back to them and let them investigate a little further.
The worse part? I didn't backup the settings (again), so now it's all lost (again). Shame on me.
I'm seriously considering a POD XT for christmas.

Re: V-Amp went down
Have you tried using the VAmp editor software? I think the software might save the settings....along with the unit.

Re: V-Amp went down
When it failed this last time, what are the symptoms?
There's an internal battery, which is not mentioned anywhere in the manual. It's cheap, easy to find, and damn easy to replace. When it starts to fail, the V-Amp loses all presets and starts misbehaving in various ways. It often just sounds crap in any setting...
I thought mine had died, but I found about the battery, replaced it, and that was it.
Now I use Behringer's editor and save my presets on the computer.

Of course, you damn fool, go to Guitar Center and buy a new one! Then put the old one in the box and take it back telling them you changed your mind.

Re: V-Amp went down
I checked the battery, and it was fine. So I spoke with the technician at the shop that repaired it the first time, just to see if it was something minor that I might be able to fix myself.
He said that the first time I sent it in, there was a problem with the EPRom unit, so he replaced it. He told me to send it back and he'd do a diag on the new EPRom and see if it malfunctioned. I guess that's pretty much standard for solid state circiutry to fail pretty quick if it's going to fail, so I'm gonna send it back and let him fix it.
And for the record, I already thought about doing the return thing the first time, but after they hit me with the 15 percent restock, it'd really suck if they tried a serial number match and it backfired on me.
So, I guess I'm waiting until then.

Re: V-Amp went down
Just bought a POD, and am seriously disturbed at how insanely great this thing is. Have had it for three weeks and am still in disbelief at how this sort of mind blowing shit can be created these days. I spent two weeks with my POD in a little trailer out in the middle of the San Jaquin Valley of CA , experiencing the best sound I have ever achieved in 28 years!
