I think the general consensus on this forum is that they are well worth the money that you pay for them. They definitely tend to be cheaper than a POD.
As for which one's better, POD or V-AMP, well, that's up to you. Listen to some of the samples from POD users on here (me, wahwah, ericgtr, etc.) and compare them to VAMP users (El_jalapeno, Scott Parnell, etc.). All of us now get good sounds now, and the only difference is the execution, feel and skill of the player really.
As for being decent for gigs, I'd imagine the POD is more robust because it's more solidly built. Saying that I've never actually held a VAMP, but I believe them to be made of plastic rather than the solid metal casing for a POD. The big concern is the sound you'll get live. You can plug them into a PA system, and you also can olug them into an amp, but then the general opinion is that the amp will flavour your presets to much and so you won't get the sound out of the amp that you'd here from your unit using just the headphones (or into the computer).
However, there is that Atomic Amp which should combat this, or you could just get the Amplifier with the same logic in the head (can't remember what it's called for V-AMP, but know it's Flextone for Line 6).
But then if you get the amp, it's then difficult to record.
But rule of thumb here seems to be. Recording=POD or V-AMP, live=AMP.
I dunno about the footswitch, but if you're throwing decent stuff away, just post it off to me in the UK.

Re: Vamp2 Info
I wouldn't relay on anything other than my amp for my tone while playing live, but that's just me

hmmm... im jus a 16 year old kid, so i dont have a mesa duel rectifier to launch out some good tone, so use my pedals for that, even for live... i read someone elses post and they said they use it live and it rocks.. n yeah, my amp would probly significantly change the sound of it, but i imagine i could tweak it so that i like it.. im running a soild state 100 watt marshall.. meh.. ill probly buy it and keep my old rig of pedals incase i need to use them for live stuff.. thnx for ur comments

Re: Vamp2 Info
as for durability and gigs.. behringer is cheaply made, so i think it is plasic parts.. but u gonna remember, ur not stomping on the unit, youve got the footswitch, which i heard is decent, so if anything id have to get a new footswitch after furiouly stomping it into pieces..

Re: Vamp2 Info
I have a VAMP PRO and my bro has a POD PROXT and the only difference we can find is price, and that is a big difference (VAMP is $199 compared to POD &699). You will be happy with the VAMP PRO for recording or live. If you choose live you definately want the footpetal to switch back and forth with different tones and effects that you preset. You can also feed the signal through a power amp like a rack mount Mesa and through a cabinet of your choice. You can also do that with a POD just costs more.

Just 16? Shit, back when I was your age I had a Sunn Lead series with a 6x10 (or was it 6x12???) cabinet! I worked my ass off at McDonald's to get that amp so I could play all the gigs at school with my band and get all the trim you could imagine! Where's the ambition nowadays? Re: Vamp2 Info
Like RC, I also have the Vamp pro. It has the ability to actually split the guitar signal so you can run the Vamp into the board and get a nice stereo mix with the PA and then you can send another signal to your on stage amp. You can then mic the amp and get a nice center channel. Left, right, center is how you get a good live sound and in small club, you cannot usually use 3 stage amps.
Also the pro is a metal rack mount box....and I'm not sure how much the footswitch is....but I'll bet it's expensive.

Re: Vamp2 Info
Cool, but remember...it's the Vamp Pro that has the internal amp for splitting the signal. The Vamp 2 will need another piece of gear to do this properly. Also the footswitches are very different for the 2 models.
