Vox Valvetronix AD60VTX

Anybody else out there have one of these? I mainly use it at church in the praise band, but MAN this thing hisses. Someone told me it's because it has a tube in it and TUBE = HISS...This is the first amp I've owned that had any type of tube in it, so I wasn't sure...reviews say it's a great amp, and this particular model has a much nicer speaker than the other smaller Valvetronix amps. Just wondering if anyone else has anything good or bad to say about it. I mainly just use one clean patch on the amp at church, so I haven't really had a chance to open it up yet and see what tones I can get at live volume...just warming them all up for "Eruption at prayer time"

Looks like most people are happy with the amp judging by the Harmony Central reviews:

Thanks for the response, Mr. Jalapeno! The only problem I've had with the amp is a pronounced amount of hiss that it produces. What compounds that issue is that I go direct to the P.A. board via a Direct Box (so I can also hear myself through the stage monitors). The hiss gets to be pretty bad...so much so that the Line Level out knob on the back of the amp can only be turned up to about 8 o'clock, when others say theirs is at about 12 o'clock. Someone recommended cleaning all input jacks with electrical cleaner...if THAT doesn't work, I'll have to try a HUSH pedal and go from there...but so far, it hasn't been what I expected. It hisses so much that when I tried to use a $35 Behringer Direct Box with 4x12 cabinet simulator, the cab sim feature was unusable (the hiss was 10 times worse than normal)...it evidentally works on some different EQ principle that can pronounce noise/hiss in the signal. So THAT was a major waste of money!

What about the cables? Have you tried different cables to see if that would cut down the noise a little? Monster cables are a little more expensive than others, but definetly the best out there.

I believe that the amp's hiss is pretty pronounced even WITHOUT any cables attached, whether in the guitar input or the Line Out. I use a Planet Waves guitar chord with the "kill switch" built into it...haven't used any other cables, but I think I remember not having any chords plugged into it and STILL hearing that hiss...the one thing with me is that I've never previously used an amp to the P.A. system. I always had a Pod XT Live, which obviously didn't hiss. Thanks, man!
