Blues triumph in Carling Cup
Chelsea have won the Carling Cup with a 3-2 victory over Liverpool after extra-time - but Jose Mourinho was not in the dug-out to witness it.
The Blues boss was sent off in the second half at The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for taunting Reds fans after Steven Gerrard's 79th-minute own goal had levelled the scores.
The Reds had gone ahead after just 43 seconds when John Arne Riise lashed home a stunning volley but Chelsea mounted a series of determined attacks after the break, which resulted in Gerrard heading a free-kick into his own net off the post.
After Mourinho was dismissed from the touchline, the game went to extra time and Didier Drogba headed against the post within minutes.
But the big striker was on target after half-time in extra time, poking the ball home from Glen Johnson's long throw, and five minutes later, Mateja Kezman netted what proved to be the winner.
Jerzy Dudek punched away a cross and when Eidur Gudjohnsen fired the ball back, the keeper could only half stop it which allowed Kezman to force it over the line after 112 minutes.
Antonio Nunez outjumped Peter Cech to pull one back for Liverpool only a minute later but they could not find an equaliser and after the final whistle, Mourinho emerged from the tunnel to celebrate with his players.
