Cubs Curse
The legend has it that a dude in 1910 or somthing tried to get in a cubs game with a goat, and they wouldn't let him. He then put a curse on the cubs never to win a pennant again. after growing up (i am mainly a Sox fan) seeing them being the doormat of the nat. league, do you think this curse is true?
The other argument is that for some reason this horrid team sells out Wrigley all the time and makes tons of money, and they figure -why invest in million dollar gr8 players, when we don't have to.
what are your thoughts?

My question is why is it that people in Chicago still seem to embrace the Cubbies more than the White Sox? The White Sox are way more fun to watch these days. Why would you want to cheer for a team that is cursed! Never heard the one about the goat but it does sound interesting.
I'm assuming the Cubs still have better attendance than the Sox. If so, I hope that changes. The White Sox are Chicago's team!

I know people who are cub fans and they live and die by this team. Being a Tigers/Mets fan I can somewhat understand what they go through during the down years as the Tigers were horrid up to this year and the Mets haven't been stellar as of late but the Cubs haven't really had an up year since maybe back in the playoffs in the 80's or the most recent one a few years ago... other than that they've been pretty quiet.
You're right about the White Sox. Jerry Reinsdorf actually put some pieces in place to help them succeed and if the Cubs followed suit they'd be there too but it just seems like the cubs never put together enough pieces to make a run.... curse? or a disinterested ownership? Too bad as Cubs fans are probably the most loyal and deserve to be rewarded for years of team loyalty....

There is no Cubs curse, they are just stupid. The owners dont spend nearly as much as they could. I agree some of it is greed given the the fact they can sellout wrigley by sticking crap on the field. They also sign has beens instead of top tier players. To become champs two things need to happen. A) New Owners and B) New Stadium. Wrigley is a the mecca of baseball, but outside of the field, its crap and located in poverty Chicago. New stadium= more money=better players=world championship. Unfortunately neither of these two is gonna happen very soon, so the Cubs will be screwed for awhile.

The Curse
As the story goes, Billy Sianis, a Greek immigrant (from Paleopyrgos, Greece[1]), who owned a nearby tavern (the now-famous Billy Goat Tavern), had two $7.20 box seat tickets to Game 4 of the 1945 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and the Detroit Tigers, and decided to bring along his pet goat, Murphy (or Sinovia according to some references), which Sianis had restored to health when the goat had fallen off a truck and subsequently limped into his tavern. The goat wore a blanket with a sign pinned to it which read "We got Detroit's goat"[2]. Sianis and the goat were allowed into Wrigley Field and even paraded about on the playing field before the game before ushers intervened and led them off the field. After a heated argument, both Sianis and the goat were permitted to stay in the stadium occupying the box seat for which he had tickets. At this point, Andy Frain (head of Wrigley Field's hired security company at the time), waved the goat's box-seat ticket in the air and proclaimed "If he eats the ticket that would solve everything."[3]. However, the goat did not. Before the game was over, Sianis and the goat were ejected from the stadium at the command of Cubs owner Philip Knight Wrigley due to the animal's objectionable odor. Sianis was outraged at the ejection and allegedly placed a curse upon the Cubs that they would never win another pennant or play in a World Series at Wrigley Field again because the Cubs organization had insulted his goat, and subsequently left the U.S. to vacation in his home in Greece.
The Cubs lost Game 4 and eventually the 1945 World Series, prompting Sianis to write to Wrigley from Greece, saying, "Who stinks now?" Following a third-place finish in the National League in 1946, the Cubs would finish in the league's second division for the next 20 consecutive years. This streak finally ended in 1967, the year after Leo Durocher became the club's manager. Since that time, the supposedly cursed Cubs have not won a National League pennant or played in a World Series – the longest pennant drought in Major League history. Sianis died in 1970.

Pretty interesting story...I've never heard it before. I heard a couple of weird baseball stories when I lived in Cooperstown. Could be true...might just be a hoax...Who knows. For the Cubs' sake I hope not.

Cubs should change their logo to a Goat! That will break the curse.

I agree-and the thing is they have the money-they are the tourist attraction here in chicago.
They sell merchandise alone millions. They don't invest.
The Sox just work hard, and that's why they win more I suppose.
