Lee vs. Ali

Ok, who would win? The stinging butterfly or the little dragon?

It is a hard one for me. Neither one would ever give up. Both were incredible fighters. I think bruce might fight a little more dirty than muhammad would be used to though. He was also an incredibly powerful striker for his size and faster than greased lightning. Then again ali was fast for his size and about 3-4 times bigger than bruce.

I think in code: while(1) execute();

Watching quite a bit of K-1 and stuff like that I have seen how hard boxers can have it against opponents that use kicks.
I'd say bruce lee would win. Not only because of kicks and such but also because he was a total freak

In a good way of course

tough one...big contrast in styles. but ive always felt that alot of the martial arts stuff is just for show and doesnt work....it just looks cool in the movies.

i feel it could go either way...

Well, the stuff you see in the movies is pretty impractical in many cases. The cool thing about bruce though is that his was mostly practical stuff. Outside of the screen he was also a pretty important person and changed a lot about how people view the arts. He was, in particular, a major practicalogist...which probably isn't a word...meaning he did not have any use for anything that wasn't useful in combat. A study of his life and studies shows someone who looked at any style, took what he thought worked, and threw away anything that didn't. "Take what is useful, discard what is not."

With Ali on the other hand. That guy, if he couldn't beat you with strength beat you with technique and spirit. He would just take a beating until you wore yourself out and then fucked your world up big time. I don't know if that would work against Lee....the man was fucking superhuman, which is probably why his little human body couldn't hold him for very long.

As an aside, I know someone that fought Lee. Depending on who you talk to the outcome changes (tall tales always surround people like that), but he told me himself Lee broke his nose. But at any rate he gave some insight into his fighting habits saying that Lee liked the outside but was at a disadvantage (at least with him) on the inside. I can see truth in that based on his fighting in movies.

But yes, a lot of martial arts is too rigid to be practical. Bruce on the other hand said the same thing and the effectiveness of his style changed a lot of minds.

I saw a San Sou vs. Boxers excibition match that took place in China (friend had it on VCD). Only one Boxer won. In San Sou it is worth a point to grab your opponent and throw them on the ground. The boxers just didn't have a clue what to do about that. One got disqualified for planting his knee in his opponents sack.
