It's a shame all this Barry Bonds/steroid crap is ruining the start of the season!

Ever heard the phrase "killing two birds with one stone"?
I think after a week or so, the season itself will push that stuff out of focus and allow the games themselves to take the headlines. Granted, we'll see a lot of press towards the pending investigation, but I think if they get things straightened out to the way it should be run (the investigation), it will be good for the game in the end.

Man, what a crazy first week. The Tigers and the Brewers are red-freaking-hot (which I think is cool for both of them) , the Yanks and Chisox have struggled despite having the most stacked rosters, and Selig and Bonds have come out of the closet and admitted to a hardcore sexual relationship.

Anybody catch the Cards-Cubs game yesterday?
St. Louis did not look like the powerhouse they are/have been the last couple of years. They mentioned at one point in the ninth inning or so that the Cradinal relief pitchers had thrown 13 balls in their last 15 pitches. Isringhausen himself failed to retire a batter. Not pretty - most likely a fluke of a game though.
In contrast, the Cubbies were looking pretty sharp. If they can get Prior and Wood back healthy soon, they may have a really good season. Analysts have said it would take more than that, but I think they could hit the playoffs easily by just getting those two arms back healthy.

Detroit's Chris Shelton appears to be this year's Brian Roberts. Let's see how long he can keep it up.
BTW, Kobe Clemens did indeed start his year with our local Astros affiliate, the Lexington Legends. Through the first 6 games, he is batting .154 with no HR's and 3 ribbies. The team however, is 5-1 and looks like a strong one to watch here this year.

Let me tell you a little something about our pitching staff. On paper, its the best in Major League Baseball. Woody, Prior, Maddux, Zambrano. But here's something you may not know. Wood has to be the most missunderstood player in the MLB, but not in a good way. People still see him as "Kid K" and all that, after his Rookie of the Year 13-6 in 1998. Remember that was 8 years ago. Look at seasons he has actually completed. They have been nothing but average in my book. He walks more than he strikes out, and is no longer the joy to watch that he was before.
However, if we get Prior back, things can definitely turn around. He's the best pitcher on our staff, just a little too fragile. If he can stay healthy and in that pitching staff, we're set.
Cubbies are lookin' good. Another win today.

*tick*....*tick*....*tick*....
Can you hear that? That's all hell about to explode in the world of MLB.
Apparently this stuff with Jason Grimsley's house being searched by federal agents has not only led to his asking for release from Arizona and having it granted, but he was also naming names of other HGH users and says "boatloads" of players have been involved with doctors that gave the stuff out. Analysts say this is going to totally blow up at any time.
Fine with me ... time to clean up the damn game.

It's certainly a shame that long standing baseball records produced by true athletes are being broken by mutated monsters. Anyone read the article in Scientic American last year about gene doping? It envolves genetically atering a person's genes to make them physically superior and will be totally undetectible because no drugs will need to be taken to maintain the enhancement. It might be time to give in and just let altheles dope themselves to hearts content, and let the fans watch the million dollar freaks with a new twist on the entertainment for the fans.
The future is Bio-tech, Godzilla!
Here's some articles on gene doping

Fear The Chop Shop!!!!!!!!!!
I guess we're all partial and subjective to our places of origin. Being an Atlanta native; the Braves are my favorite. However having lived in NY for ten years and having family there, I have to be partial to the Yanks as far as the American league is concerned. Aside from Hampton being out for the season, things so far seem to be looking up for both the Braves and the Yanks.
