NBA Offseason 2004

What do you make of this guy and his agent?

First the Cavs cut up the final year of his contract-which called for $700,000 so he can be a unrestricted free agent and sign a $40 million contract with them. Then he gets an offer from Utah for $30 million more and basically stabs Cleveland in the back.
Yes-$30 mill is a load of $$ but Cleveland went on Boozer's word that he would sign their offer sheet-There is no way they would have risked that move otherwise.

Re: Carlos Boozer scandal

All I know is that somebody is lying here and I believe it's Boozer. From what I've gathered so far, his agent has resigned because he was not happy with Boozers choice. Most agents know that there is a code of ethics in sports business, and it obviously was not used in this case. I think two things are just flat out mind blowing to me. 1. That Utah would pay that much money for this guy. I mean he's a good player, but come on! That's exactly the problem with the NBA. In this league you can be a stiff and get rich. You dont see that problem much in the other three major sports. 2. That Boozer would actualy show this amount of classlessness if that's even a word!

This whole thing just stinks, and I think the NBA should have stepped in just like the NFL did with the Terrell Owens situation. Atleast give Cleveland some kind of draft compensation or something. IMO Carlos showed who he really is, and they are much better without a guy like this in the lockerroom.

Technically Boozer did nothing wrong. Morally and ethically however is a different story. Cleveland got totally screwed in this deal and unfortunately will probably not be compensated-sad.

Re: Carlos Boozer scandal

Well I can't really agree that he did nothing wrong. I mean what happened to a man's word being bond ya know. A verbal agreement is a verbal agreement, but I guess Boozer doesn't see that. As a common everyday worker, I really dont see the difference in 40 and 70 million. I'd snatch 40 mill in a heartbeat. I mean what exactly is he going to spend that extra 30 million on? It's just stupid and outrageous. The NBA is famous for stiffs getting big pay days. Friggin Antonio Mcdyess gets 20 somethin million for nothing. He's always hurt, and is on the down side of his career if you ask me. He's only played a max of 52 games the last four years. It's just disgusting that he can still get paid that much. Pleasure talkin sports with ya by the way. You know your stuff from what I can tell

Re: Carlos Boozer scandal

Same to you Sucka-I agree the $$$ difference is just an ego thing anymore with these guys. Although the scenarios and sports are totally different-A-rod's contract in baseball will always be a measuring point in sports history and with these athletes. Anxious to hear what Boozer has to say about all of this?? Is it 'not about the $$$?"

Re: Carlos Boozer scandal

Ya know you're right about the A-rod contract, I had forgotten about that. Michael Jordan is really the guy that I believe started all this. I remember the Bulls signed him to a $39 million contract for only one year at one point in his career. That's just sick. Shaq's contract was up there as well, but nobody is ever touching Alex's contract. I'm still not sure why they felt the need to give him over $200 million, that's just beyond me. I'll also be interested to see what Carlos has to say. Last I heard neither he, nor his ex agent were returning phone calls.

Re: Carlos Boozer scandal

Really not much he can say...Or should say. His reputation haas completely changed from a hard-working defensive minded rebounder with an up and coming team to an ego maniac fool who now plays for a rebuilding utah team in an extremely tough conference. Ironically the first thought that came to mind about Jordan was "yeah but he was worth the $$" He did win 6 titles and is the best NBA'er ever but $39 mil a year?? Yeah he was definately a trend setter. Can't totally blame the players though and The Boss also plays a major role in the influx of salaries
