By Request - Journey Odds & Ends

Here are a few single track selections which have been requested. I KNOW I should have put them all together, but I didn't think of that before I read Steve's post this morning. Sorry about that. Here we go...

First off is a recording of "Ask The Lonely" from a show which I THINK was played in San Francisco on December 29, 1998. This was the first live recording I ever heard featuring Steve Augeri.

Next we have a pair of tracks (Separate Ways and Send Her My Love) from a show performed at the Concord Pavilion in California on August 14, 1999.

This one is from a show in Atlanta on July 5, 1999 where the boys played a "brand new song" called "Have A Good Time". As I said in my original post, this is not the best recording, but I have never heard this song anywhere else.

Here's a single track from a show in New York in 1999 featuring the earliest recording of "World Gone Wild" that I've heard. Earlier versions may exist - I've just never heard them.

Here's a neat one. It's a 60-second unreleased instrumental called "Elmo's Theme". For those of you who don't know, Elmo is the robot/face thingy on the cover of "Frontiers". This track gives me hope that somewhere out there some Frontiers Demos may exist. I would kill to hear those!

This last one is for obsessive completists like me only. It is a little over a minute of "When You Love A Woman" performed during a show in Ft. Lauderdale in November 1998.

Hope you like!

Well I guess it works out this way because people only have to download the tracks they don't have.

I can't wait to hear "Elmo's Theme" and it would be so awesome if there was a set of Frontiers demos! They're out there somewhere!

I guess I'll download the incomplete "When You Love A Woman", its more than I had before! Did you come up with that term "obsessive completist"? I guess I'm the same!

Thanks!

Speaking of Frontiers, has anyone here ever heard of a live version of "Troubled Child"? I have at least one live version of every other track from "Frontiers", and I'd love to be able to make my own "Frontiers Live" CD. I believe I have all the tracks from "Escape" and possibly "Infinity" as well, but "Frontiers" has always been my favorite Journey CD, so I'm always on the lookout for "Troubled Child".

Just curious.

I have wanted to do the exact same thing! But I have read in mutliple places that Troubled Child was never played live, however, I heard that JSS might sing it on this tour... Better than nothing!

I heard JSS and the band sound-checking Troubled Child in Chicago on July 19th. As far as I know it has never been played live, but maybe by the end of this tour.

On a couple, if not all of the frontiers shows I have, they play "Elmo's Theme" as an intro, I'm thinking they just played a recording of it. (That's what I heard they did with "Majestic" for the Evolution tour.)

Blimey! I should've went early (I went to that show), I would've loved to hear Troubled Child live! I have one question though, did he hold the note for "...moon" as long as on the studio version? Whenever I sing along I take a deep breath right before that part and I'm able to hold it (based on duration, not on tone!) Just wondering...
Well I hope they do play it and I hope someone records it.

I don't remember that specific part of the song. All I remember is that JSS sounded killer on it. The entire band was smoking on that one. To be honest, it caught me off guard and it took me a while to figure out just what I was hearing. I was really surprised to hear the band working on Troubled Child, especially with JSS barely being with them for 2 weeks.

Too bad that Steve P. never sang it live. I would definitely like to hear a JSS version, though! I was really impressed when I saw him in St. Louis. You could tell that he loved the songs he sang, but hadn't been singing them in concert for years and years. It was really fresh, somehow.

Lucky duck! Well, I guess that all we can hope is that they add it to the rotation somewhere down the line and that someone is there to capture it for posterity. I'm actually surprised that there have only been three JSS shows circulated so far. Here's hoping for more!

I knew I'd heard Elmo's theme before, it's on the Frontiers and Beyond DVD.

Thank you for these little gems! Very cool! Wonder why "Have a Good Time" was never put on an album. Thanks again!
